I am applying to at least three schools, in addition to many EC programmes. All of these endeavors will require recommendations and I am not keen on asking my teachers to fill out separate forms for each one.

Do you think I can contact the schools to see if they would accept a common recommendation? Only one of the schools to which I am applying has an application presently available, but all of them are on separate geographical continents, so they vary greatly.

I think it would be okay to ask your teachers for three separate recommendations. I applied to three schools too and asked my teachers for three separate ones. It would help your chances of getting in, because it shows that you are interested in the school and not just using a common recommendation form.

Depending on which schools you are applying to, there are one or two sites with common application forms. If you have already registered for the SSAT, you can also submit applications to a number of schools thru that site. All of the school’s use the same recommendation forms (although some will want additional recs), and the forms can be submitted online. Another site is gatewaytoprepschools.com. Not as many schools on this site, but they still use a common form. Good luck!

Since many schools require at least a month’s notice for teacher recs, this is a good time to ask for them. You want to have these in the mail around Dec 15 (before the holidays), because after the holidays is a madhouse and a rush to the finish.
