It's good if you are legacy, URM or otherwise not their usual 4.0 perfect student - perhaps family's first college applicant, etc. Otherwise, yes.. good luck!

One has to wonder how much harder things can get. What will the next new hurdle be? A reduction in the number of slots in incoming classes due to the economic crunch? Who knows?

It looks to me that Princeton's increase was negligible (2%) and that, coupled with the school's intention to increase the number of freshman enrollments next year, suggests a trend toward less competition, not more.

I have noticed a lot of schools are upping their class sizes. Williams is saying 25 and Amherst I think said 10 per graduating class. Midd is fully admitting they will adjust EFC and international financial aid. However, he is one of only a handful of presidents and top admin to have taken a pay cut TWICE.

Yes, upping the class size seems to be the approach of many. Reduce class size does seem to be the public college approach.

What I'm wondering is how the privates deal with what should be a huge increased need for aid. If they all don't have a significantly higher percentage of kids on aid this year I'll never buy that they are truly need blind again!
