Record? Six got in from one HS

Daughter is a freshman at a small private school in south Texas. I was on campus the other day and noticed they had posted all the schools that kids have been accepted to on a board in the commonn area. To my surprise, I saw that six got into Stanford. There ware a few Ives and assortment of other highly selective schools, but six to Stanford?! That’s got to be some sort of a record. We are new to the school and knew it had strong academics and was well regarded, but am surprised (and happy) to see these results from a school outside of the NE super preps.

Hum… Several schools do much more than 6. Not to burst your bubble, as your D’s school did great, but several schools are double digits annually. I will look them up.

And NE Preps do similar to your D’s school about 5 to 7 annually - there are a good bit of feeder schools in that range.

OK, found them:

Six seems like a lot to me for a small school in Texas. The schools noted above are all in the Bay Area with a good number of legacies and donors, and Gunn is the public high school for the Stanford faculty housing area.

Is athletics playing a role for any of those 6?

It might be a record for that high school but definitely not a record for high schools in general. My high school had I think six or seven admitted my year - small public school not in CA.

OP, how small?

^^ Gunn & Paly are known for getting lots of students into Stanford annually, and other top Bay Area publics usually get around 4-5 people in per year.

It’s not surprising to see Bay Area schools do well as they are in Stanford’s backyard and have developed long term relationships with the school. Same thing takes place at Rice here in Texas. What is surprising (at least to me), is that Stanford would accept so many from one school in Texas. I’m guessing less than 100 in the graduating class, and none of the Stanford admits are recruited athletes (as far as I know). Just a happy observation…

My HS in MA sent ~12 to Stanford. Just accept it as that and read nothing more into it.
