I was wondering if anyone could tell me if an undergrad applicant can send a music recording to be reviewed by CITs music department (if one even exists).

Please let me know! thanks :)

Caltech has no music department - you can take classes at Occidental. If you are serious about music there are better schools to attend.

noo, how come?
There should be at least some sort of orchestra/concert band/jazz band/marching band/etc/ at Caltech, correct?

Or am I just misunderstanding your post lol?

I'm not at all the one to ask, but I know there are music somethings that go on at Caltech. I know there are various bands/choirs/etc., but I don't exactly know the details. Hopefully someone who knows a bit more will come along, and hopefully they'll forgive my bastardization explanation of the music.

Just don't assume there's Nothing here, as your post seems to indicate, Hriundeli.

Hriundeli, I don't think there are any music faculty, that's all.

I don't know much about music at Caltech either, but here's some stuff I found from the Caltech website:

There are Performance and Activities classes (http://pr.caltech.edu/catalog/courses/listing/pa.html), some of which I assume involve performance of music.

There are a couple of music classes (http://pr.caltech.edu/catalog/courses/listing/mu.html). All of them appear to be taught by one person, Thomas Neenan. His website is here: http://www.hss.caltech.edu/people/faculty/neenan

There are things like orchestra, jazz band, a cappella groups, etc. I don't know all of them but if you're interested in something specific, just go search the Caltech website. Unsurprisingly though, we do not have an actual music department (i.e. You can't major in music, no duh.)

There is a music department, as has been stated by others: http://pr.caltech.edu/catalog/courses/listing/mu.html

The course offerings, not surprisingly, are pretty meager. However, you don't need a huge number of music classes to keep playing. There is a thriving orchestra, concert band, multiple jazz bands, and dozens of music ensembles. Also a lot of people, such as myself, who just practice on our own. :) There is also an on-campus house dedicated just to music that has fancy-schmancy sound-proofed practice rooms with acoustic modification and nice pianos.

A lot of the students here are musically talented despite the fact that there are no music majors. More than half of the students I personally know play an instrument. It's really not hard to find someone to play with, if you want that. Don't worry.
