Recruited athlete

is there any advantage in the admissions process for an athlete like myself to contact the school’s athletic program to be a potential walk-on football player but not a recruited athlete? the reason i ask is because placekickers and punters usually do not receive scholarships because coaches would rather recruit off/def. players. my coach is contacting penn to let them know that he has a good kicker going their way. and wharton is my “dream” school.

Yes...have your coach contact Penn.

Friend got into Wharton because he is #1 in country for tennis. Being a place kicker will not get you into Wharton, unless you are a strong candidate without football. It may get you into CAS and probably engineering so long as you have the strong GPA and 2200 SAT. It's just annother hook, like being a URM.

Even if you were a quarterback you would not get a scholarship. That is the point of the Ivy League.

You don't need a 2200 SAT if you are an athletic recruit. Each coach has a couple of Wharton slots for recruits. You still have to be qualified for Wharton. These slots go to the top recruits the coach wants and who want Wharton.

If you're actually recruited by the coach, you'll essentially have your pick of schools at Penn, but I doubt the coach will use one of his recruiting slots on a kicker

If you are really good, then try to contact them quickly. How far can you kick by the way? I kick too and may try out eventually if I feel up to it.

I'm 5 touchbacks out of 15 for kickoffs. haven't gotten any chances to do field goals this season. for field goals i'm accurate straight down the center from 40 and inside with no pressure and i haven't kicked one under pressure in a real game yet. my farthest ever is 55 yards with a 1 inch block. i also take 1 step for field goals.

if you are talking for real about your field goal distance, then you should def contact them asap. I doubt the 1 step for field goals though. You would probably be close to a recruiting situation if they haven't recruited anyone, but it is worth a shot.
