Recruitment for sports

Does being recruited for a sport help ALOT in the admissions process? Right now I have a couple of coaches interested in me for swimming and my times right now are better or close to those on the teams. But these schools are all D3. How big a difference will a coach's help make?

Also, how does my swimming look just as a EC without being recruited? I was state champ in my events junior year and probably will be this year too. Also i qualified for YMCA Nationals and placed 40thish in the 100 Fly. This year if i get lucky, i might be able to get top 20.

Thanks for any input!

Yes, it's a good EC even without the recruiting.

It can be a big help in admissions, but it really depends on the college. Some D3 schools support their athletic teams more than others in admissions. There are some schools that, while they may have teams in your sport, really don't give the coaches' wishes all that much consideration. The coach is probably your best source for that kind of information because she/he will have experience with the particular school.
