Red Brick Roadshow

@DCNatFan, I’ve never heard the “J Crew U” label before (ha) but then again I’ve also never been in a J Crew store before either…not to sound dumb, but what does that involve (in terms of clothing and just general atmosphere)? I don’t hate the preppy look on college kids as long as there’s no monogramed sweaters involved, but I don’t want to feel out-of-place wearing jeans and a t-shirt every day. I’m a pretty frugal person

@lexluthor5 That’s true; I’m definitely looking to avoid the stuck-up vibe and it’s hard to determine how much being well-dressed contributes to that – Miami does love to market itself but they don’t strike me as the stuck-up/pretentious type. It’s still a public school, so there might be some upper-middle class kids but I figure it’s not like billionaires are sending their kids there. I’ve also heard it’s a party school, which I think stems from the heavy Greek involvement, but imo it seems at least somewhat more academically-focused than other big publics. Not sure if that’s true or not.

I haven’t visited yet, either, so honestly I don’t know that much about the school besides what they send me and what I’ve heard on CC/online. I’m with you, though – I don’t care what school it is at this point, I just want to like at least one of them! If you don’t mind my asking, what’s the other school you’re visiting?

@SuperSenior19 We are visiting UMass this coming weekend. UConn, James Madison and maybe Delaware all still in the mix yet too. Not sure if anything else will sneak in yet.

To get a feel how the kids dress, get the names of the sororities on their website, then put the names into google. YOu will see that girls often wear the usual jeans with holes in them like most teens wear. You don’t really see pearls and monogramed sweaters. It doesn’t have the same feel as a big southern school.
