This is my first ever post here on College Confidential (was referred by someone who spoke highly of this forum) and I am happy to join the community. I am still at a CC and I hope to pass all my classes this semester in order to have an AS-T by the end and be awarded it. I will be finished with all the prep work classes for my major (Business with emphasis in marketing).
Jumping straight on in; I applied for cal state for fall semester this year and I was denied. I then received an email yesterday saying there are other cal states who will “accept” me in their school as they have room. Now I am confused to wether or not this guarantees acceptance or wether it is just another application in which I can be denied. Can anyone help me out with that? I have reached out to my counselor already but I am impatient at times and just wanted to get an answer fast.
I have also reached out to my counselor and the first choice school to ask if I am guaranteed admission or if it is just another application in which I can still be denied.
Thanks in advance!
PS I chose CSUDH and CSUBF–CSUDH was first as I wanted to be near home but not too near.
Thanks for the response. I did look at that but I am still confused by that. I’m lost to whether or not I will be granted admission or if it is just another application in which I can still be denied. Thanks again.
You need to act quickly. You have been determined to be eligible for admission, but the CSU that turned you down was full. If you select another CSU that has space, you’ll be admitted, but if it fills up in the meantime, then you won’t.
That is why the instructions emphasize that you should respond to the email as soon as possible. If hundreds or thousands of other students also got the redirection email at the same time, the spots will go to the ones who acted promptly.
There are always some CSU’s that will have plenty of space, but they might not be the one’s you want.
Sorry for the double post. I emailed this to CSUB and CSUDH
"Good morning,
I recently applied for cal states and was denied. I then received an email for redirection from cal state apply as some were too full to accept my application. I wanted to ask:
Is it a guarantee I will be accepted into a program at CSUDH?
After submitting the application for redirection through Cal state apply do I have to do anything else?
Thanks for your time and have a great rest of your day.
Best,
Aakash"
Got this from CSUDH:
"Good Morning,
Thank you for your email message. Please note that the email was not from the office. You would want to follow the instructions on the email sent to you. If you choose CSUDH as one of your options and if your file is sent to us, we will then send you further communications from CSUDH. At this time, we are unable to assist you further in the matter (until you receive a CSUDH ID #)."
And this one from CSUB:
Thank you for contacting CSU Bakersfield, Office of Admissions and Records.
When students are denied and redirected from other campuses, you will be automatically accepted to the campus in which you were redirected too.
Please check your email periodically and we will let you know what you need to do next.
Should you have any questions, please contact our office."
So I am confused, I am guaranteed at CSUB but not CSUDH?
Which is your first choice school and which is your 2nd choice school? If for any reason there are no more spots at your 1st choice school, you will be admitted to your 2nd choice school.
But I don’t think anyone on a message board can really tell you whether your spot is “guaranteed” or not – I’m sure you’ll hear back soon enough from the campus you selected as your first choice.
@calmom, thank you. Yes I saw that CSUDH is not impacted and should hopefully accept me. Thank you and @Gumbymom for the help. I will keep this thread updated once I have more news. According to the support at CSUapply it can take up to 3 weeks for the CSU’s to receive my application information. Now I just have to be patient.
So I decided to call CSUB and they said I can still be denied which is ironic because the email they sent me says otherwise. Ugh how much I hate this process of applying. NO ONE can give me a proper answer. Really annoyed.
Update— CSU first said only one of my schools saved. Went back yesterday into the app now it shows 2 schools saved. I also talked to my schools transfer center and the person said that from what he learned in training, redirection is a guarantee because the schools you redirect to have room for applicants because they’re not impacted. I still have yet to hear from the schools about next steps. Got a few more weeks before I know more, hopefully I find out sooner than later.
My understanding (which is limited) is that it is first come, first served for each non impacted campus. If your major is impacted, you will be admitted to the school but as undeclared. Any given school may have room for some redirected students but most likely doesn’t have room for everyone.
Can not upload pics, so I took 2 (one from this morning and this afternoon) this morning the Primary showed CSUDH this afternoon it did NOT show CSUDH. And this morning when I chatted with one the people that work at CSUApply they said there are 2 schools in their system (have a screenshot of this as well)…what is going on. I HATE IT AND I HATE THE SCHOOL SYSTEM HERE.
