@LKnomad , this process has also been taking a toll on my parent- it’s particularly excruciating in that as the day gets closer, time seems to etch closer to a halt. But you know what helps stay sane in these times, supportive parents and friends such as yourself! I’m sure your son very much appreciates it and I do sincerely wish him the best and a very happy April 1st I’m confident Reed will reciprocate the interest!
@AGoodFloridian I have one of these cool calm kids, who doesn’t stress. He rarely get anxious, or gets worked up about things. My stress around this whole process is eliciting a lot of eye rolls from him.
Field guide and information about my likely major emailed to me. I’m becoming increasingly doubtful that the letters mean anything, honestly. These last two mailings are just so similar to everything colleges sent me before I applied.
My daughter got the Padeia brochure today. Sure looks like fun. I’m kind of new to this site, so apologies in advance for going over old territory, but do we know they won’t issue decisions until April1? I thought some came out last year on March 28?
@Ridiculous22 According to the admissions blog, decisions will be mailed out from March 29 through April 1, although I don’t think we know if they’re doing email decisions this year.
Thanks, @usualhopeful. We are going to be in Oregon and Washington the week of 3/28-4/1 looking at other schools she has been admitted to already (Willamette and Puget Sound) but Reed is her first choice. I would love for her to be able to drop by the campus after she gets accepted or rather to NOT drop by and then get rejected the next day.
My son already attends Reed, my daughter has applied. If you have questions, I will answer any I can.
Reed will not be emailing decisions. If my memory serves correctly, acceptance boxes go out on the 29th via Fedex. Rejections and waitlists on April 1st via first class mail.
That “layered” method is unintentionally, and particularly agonizing for us here on CC. Something similar happened on last year’s thread. There was a group of individuals who were initially accepted- leaving the others to wonder why they hadn’t received their decisions yet.
Some are quick to criticize that method, but… It’s easy to forget that colleges don’t send their decisions out with interactions on college forums in mind. I don’t think we’re even supposed to be aware of that fact.
I haven’t seen the admissions blog yet but from their admissions page on the website, it just says postmarked for April 1st. I think there was a certain degree of confusion on last years thread because internationals received their decisions via email.
My son received an email when he was accepted 2 years. It took a while to get the Iliad book that is required summer reading.
The Odessey was “required” parents’ reading for Family Days in November.
The good news is that internationals DO receive their decisions through email, although I’m not sure which day. I’m not exactly sure why Reed stopped using email for domestic students this year but it seems to be increasing anxiety for some applicants.
Wait I might have to study The Odessey again to be adequately prepared if my daughter ended up at Reed? That sounds fun!
where did they confirm that they are no longer using emails for domestic?
I’m not doubting it, just curious
@samhyder if you check out the admissions blog (just Google “Reed Tumblr”), they’ve said several times that all domestic applicants are receiving snail mail this year. Aside from internationals, no ED1 OR ED2 applicants were informed through email, and it seems they’ll be continuing that trend for RD based on recent posts on the blog.
Okay, sorry for asking. I just saw on an old thread they said only snail mail and those admitted received emails, but if it didn’t happen for any ED applicants this year then I guess I just will have to wait even longer :-SS
Did anyone get the letter about majors today? It said info about the major I put on the common app. It said something like we saw you put this on your common app, and stuff about it, and that I should explore other stuff at reed too. I’m from NJ by the way.
@ohwhatalife a few people got that letter last week. Not sure what it means. For each person, it was specific to their major.
@wonderlanddd Sweet! Another linguistics major :). Not many of us around on cc
