Hello! I’m quite worried as I have my Stanford interview in a few hours. It was the only college I applied to yet reading back on my application I somehow referred to Stanford as an Ivy League university. Despite checking every 5 minutes everything is correct, I somehow did not see that part. I’m now incredibly worried that my chances are nil for that. Would it be wise to bring this mistake up in my interview?
I even wrote Stanford right next to it! How did I not see this? ?
I would say that any mention of the Ivy League, even in an application to an Ivy league school, would not be good. It may show that you are prestige driven.
Yeah I understand. I made sure that it doesn’t come across that way. It was one of the short essay questions so it makes more sense in the essay.
I think I’ve completely messed it all up.
On the bright side, your chances of getting in are ridiculously small anyway, right? The interview will be good practice. Look at it that way. Take what you can from it, and chalk up your mistake to a lesson learned. Hopefully you applied to a range of colleges and you will end up where you are supposed to be.
And what do mean about it being the only college you applied to. You said you applied to Harvard and already have a couple of UK unis lined up.

I’m from the UK. Stanford was the only university I applied to as I have a guaranteed place here at a university. All was going well till I read the Ivy League part. I really hope they can see past it and that my interview goes really well :\

And yes, I think you’ve probably blown it, barring an exceptional application or hook. You might as well ask the interviewer what his/her thoughts are on the matter. Might make for a fun conversation.
No no that was a question for my friend. I applied Stanford and they applied to Harvard.
Well, you and your “friend” sure sound similar. And your “friend” also states in the linked post that he/she applied to Stanford too.
You are not allowed to post questions on behalf of friends and if that was a friend, you’re not terribly convincing about it.

You know…your chances of acceptance at Stanford was 5% or less anyway as an international student.
Frankly, if you wanted to attend college in the United States, you would have chosen another few schools where your chances of acceptance were better anyway.
So…this can’t have been your top realistic choice anyway…it’s a huge reach.
What’s done is done. Don’t mention it in the interview session.

I have to say I agree it’s not a good look. We had a few info sessions warning against what seem like cut and paste essays, which it certainly will look like referring to Stanford as Ivy League. I guess by now the interview is over, curious to know how it went.
