I recall Kristin had an issue several years ago, and had to send emails to the SOMS, but I think that was because either she didn’t indicate the WI courses, or her transcript didn’t have the designation.
I don’t recall my son having to send emails. For some reason, I recall that there was a place on the AMCAS app itself to indicate WI courses, even if they weren’t in English Dept.
I imagine that the AMCAS app changes from year to year, but is it possible to actually see a current one w/o “signing up”?
Unless AMCAS has changed, there isn’t a place to indicate WI intensive classes when listing classes.
I doubt AMCAS verifies what classes are writing classes or writing intensive since that is a school-specific requirement and not an AMCAS one. Also some medical schools specifically say all writing classes must have an ENG designation to fulfill admission requirements.
This is something the individual has to wrangle over with the individual medical schools.
OK, just checked the 2017 Instruction Manual–there is no way/no place to indicate a WI class. You can only choose from the selections offered in a pull down menu–and WI is not one of them.
As I said this is a school-specific issue and the applicant will need to hash this out with the school. If a WI or ENG designation does NOT appear on the official transcript sent to med school after acceptance and prior to matriculation, sending a course description (or a link to the course description) from the college’s official course catalog usually suffices.
Thanks. I don’t recall my son having to email his schools like Kristin had to.
I did read somewhere that UAB has a place to mention this on their secondary, but I don’t remember by son mentioning that.
