Regarding Kellogg Honors College

Hello, I’m a transfer student and I will be attending CPP in fall 2012. I recently heard about the Kellogg Honors College (KHC) at CPP. I did read about it on CPP’s website and I just want to learn more about it.

For those who have participated or is participating in the college (especially transfer students), how is/was your overall experience? Were the honors classes demanding for you? And how was the capstone project? Was it fun for you or more laborious than you’d like?
Also, from what I understand, most of the offered honors classes are GE classes. As a transfer student, I’ve completed most if not all the GE at the community college. Does it require taking “extra” honors classes to obtain the honors credit? By extra, I mean assuming that I make it into the college, would I have to take classes that is not required in my major to just get the honors units.
I’d think it’s more “convenient” for first time freshmen since they still have to take their GE’s and what not.

Finally, is it possible to “exit” the college once you’re admitted into it? Would there be any penalty/consequence?

So it seems like there are not much…or any person on here who were/are from KHC…? And I asked quite a bit of questions along with all the technical details anyways…It’s probably hard to answer.
So I just want to know who have applied or are planning to apply and under what major for this fall 2012?

I just completed my first year and was invited to the honors program, I’m wondering if it’s worth it also. I just don’t want to do the application, and I also would have to bother someone from cal poly staff to write a letter of recommendation, and I hardly even know any staff.

Hey bl4ke, thanks for the feedback!*

Same here, I don’t really know what’s in store once you are admitted to the college.
I read on the school’s website, the number of students grew up to about 300 in the last 9 years. It seems to be a relatively small number compared to the 20-something thousand students in the school…so the honors college still seems to be a mystery…

As a transfer, I have to take 4 honors classes. That’ll take a quarter from me…and I actually don’t see any honors classes that overlaps with any classes that I will need for my major, so it’ll be like an “extra” quarter for me…and as I mentioned before, I don’t know if you can exit it once you’re in. I think I would have applied if I was a freshman.

Also, the application deadline is July 10 and it’s already mid June…I find it hard to ask for letter of rec since it’s summer and the professor I’m planning to ask would be too busy with his summer class. It’d be “last minute” to ask him now. I feel that if it’s something I’m interested in and something I really want to engage in and commit to, I would have gone through with the application process. But overall, I just don’t think/feel that this college is for me, so I’ve decided I’m more than likely not going to apply.

They have a pretty active Facebook page. I’m sure you can get a hold of someone there that would gladly inform you guys.
