Regarding the Vanderbilt medical program

I know that in the spring of your sophomore year at Vandy you have the chance to be accepted into the Vanderbilt Medical School early and attend after you graduate. It's sounds like such a great opportunity and if accepted, you would prevent sooo much stress.
And of course only 12 people get in lol.

Can anyone who knows a lot about Vandy or who attends explain more?
Do many people have this unique opportunity in mind as freshman and sophomores? Should this be a pretty major decision making factor in attending? etc.

Thank you!

No, it shouldn’t be a major factor in attending because there is such a low probability of gaining admission to the program.

I attended the premed and prelaw sessions a couple of years ago for admitted students as a parent with an undecided student who now attends Vandy. I am pretty sure that they phased out the early admit program at Vandy Med. However some Vandy undergrads are represented in every Vandy Med class. These programs are few and far between…I think Brown and Wash U still run them…seems to me that Rice had a pathway with Baylor, but not sure they still have that option. Those slots are very rare to win and for students with early and strong vocations.

you can take a look at Vandy premed advising pages and shoot someone an email if you aren’t certain. Also someone on these boards who is a first year at med school…can answer…I am struggling for his ID name but he checks in often and answers questions like this for students on CC

They definitely still have the early admit program. I have a D who is a pre-med junior who considered applying but elected not to because she wasn’t ready to commit just to avoid the MCAT. She has multiple friends/acquaintances who are in the program.
