Register for housing if undecided?

I think I read in one thread that you should register for housing early even if undecided. We are OOS and haven’t visited yet but UMD is likely a top choice. Can someone please give us advice on housing. My S was direct admit to Business but not honors or scholars if that matters.

First off, congrats and welcome to Terp Nation!

Yes. Absolutely register for housing now. It’s not a commitment, but necessary if there is a chance your son may commit. Should your son decide on another school, just notify Maryland at that point. Here is the original thread that discusses it http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-maryland-college-park/1283751-new-admits-advice-from-mom-of-2-terps-p1.html

Direct admission to Smith is awesome, and the most important thing. Don’t worry about scholars or honors. Smith has lots of special programs for their students. To begin with, all freshman directly admitted to Smith are part of Smith Start program http://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/programs/undergraduate-programs/academics/fellows-program/smith-start.

After that, there are tons of special programs for business students called Fellows programs and you can check them out here http://www.rhsmith.umd.edu/programs/undergraduate-programs/academics/fellows-special-programs.

Thanks so much! Very helpful.

Is a deposit required?

@lulu123456 - A deposit is not required. Just notify UMD if you decide not to attend.
