Registering for Freshman-Year Courses?

I enrolled in Rutgers Business School recently and I'm confused about registering for courses.

I signed up for the APA Course Registration day, but I'm not sure how it will go. I don't know which courses are mandatory and which courses are good to take freshman year. Also, I want to be able to go on ratemyprofessor.com before I register for the courses.

As of now, I only have AP Credits in Computer Science and US History.
I might be able to get credits for AP English Lit, Calc BC, Chem, Micro / Macro Economics.

I’m also part of the SAS Honors Program.

There are certain core courses that everyone has to take. They will give you a form that lists these courses, and you will choose a 1st choice and an alternate choice, in case your 1st choice is unavailable.

An example of a 1st semester course load for an RBS student might be: Intro to Micro, Calc 1, Expos 1, Psych 101, and Business Forum. It will vary depending on what APs you have coming in. You can’t really utilize rate my professor because you don’t get to choose your classes. For your 1st semester they will be assigned for you and you will get your schedule in August.

This is what I remember from my own son’s experience as a freshman. Not sure if the Honors Program is different.

Usually people take 5 courses per semester but if I end out placing out of 3 / 5 of them, can I schedule different courses or can I just take two courses for the year?

Thanks. :)

Or should I take baby courses to boost my GPA o_O

You would still take 4 or 5 courses as you need 12 credits to be a full-time student. If you place out of something, you will just take another course that you need, in its place. They have you select a backup course for every course you choose in case you do not get your first choice.

What’s your advice for taking courses? Take the required courses and fill the rest up with GPA boosters?

I don’t understand your question.

You need certain core courses for Rutgers, and for your major and minor. You should make a list of these so you know what you need to do to stay on track and graduate on time. Degree Navigator will keep track of the classes you have taken and the classes that are in progress and let you know what is still required for Rutgers and for your major and minor (once declared).

If you have free space in your schedule, you may take any classes that you are eligible to take (some classes are restricted to upper or lower classmen or certain majors, etc). If you are taking a full load of difficult, required courses, than it is nice to have a lower-stress course that is an easy A.

Does this answer your question?

Yup thanks. I may have asked you this before, but do you know anything about the Supply Chain Management Program?

Sorry, I don’t know about Supply Chain other than Rutgers’ program is supposedly good.

Do you have experience with SAS Honors Program? I heard that it’s not good if you plan to double major?

No, sorry. They should be able to answer all of your questions at your APA day.

Please post back if you learn anything that might help others in the same situation.
