so what do u guys think?

Dearest JosephChef528,
It has come to my attention that you are interested in the fine institution, Vanderbilt University and I commend you for your valiant effort in applying there. However, in order for us to better predict your true chances, we must delve into yourself as a person. As a happy student attending an excellent private school in a wealthy bay side community in southern New Jersey, I had no problems getting into my school of choice, Princeton University. While, I do not know your situation, I am assuming by your writing style (and poor grammar may I add) that you probably attend a public school. Either this or you are mentally challenged. Thus, you would have a much harder time being accepted into colleges than I would. Plus, I am number 1 in my class, I have a 1580 (800 M 780 V), 3 Sat II scores of 800 (WRITING, math IIC, and biology), I have taken every AP class offered in my school (EVEN AP HISTORY), I am president of the SGA, Head Editor of the school newspaper, Treasurer for the Key Club, I play 3 Varsity Sports and was named an All-State Linebacker, I work 2 part-time jobs to help my mother with cancer and my father with Alzheimer's, and I am also an All-Eastern Pianist. Now, I am not saying that you won't get into Vanderbilt. All that I am saying is that I am a better person that you. I am sure that I am much better looking and will be much more successful than you. Your login name (JOECHEF528) tells me that you will live a plebian lifestyle and serve food to important people like me. Enough about me, let's now look at your stats. I have to say I am rather unimpressed with your lack of initiative. It seems that you receive mediocre grades, participate in mediocre activities, and have a mediocre personality. YOUR writing style tells me that you are a desperate, hungry man searching for your own private lost Lenore (recognize the allusion to Edgar Allan Poe's "The Raven" JoeChef528, it is such naunces as this that make me a brahmin on the caste system of college admissions and you a mere untouchable). Honestly, your 650 on your Writing makes me weak in the knees as I fear that you won't even be accepted to the worst of schools such as Harvard or Yale (HAHAHAHA, anyone who goes to those lame schools deserves a good whacking on the poppytock). JoeChef, you must live your own life. You must find what makes you happy. But more importantly, you must find a different institution to apply to because simply you have NO chance. I may never meet you in real life, but I wish you adieu and the best in all of your endeavors.

Sincerely, PRINCEtonCHARLES2009

PS: If you are mentally challenged than I rescind my comments as you may have a better chance of getting into Vanderbilt.

haha..i don't know which one of my friends this is but just to let you know...you called me an idiot when i actually know how to spell plebeian correctly, and you can't even seem to manage to do that...so some smart guy you are

Wait, did I get this right? Somebody is proud to be going to PRINCETON? My deepest apologies for not selecting a better institution, my dear friend.

Even as a satirical post, that was one of most egotistical passages I have ever read on College Confidential. I'm not sure whether to congratulate you or scold you.

um...that was a pretty lame attempt.

All silliness aside, I'd say you have a good (but not guaranteed) chance of getting accepted. Truthfully, you're in a blob of candidates that are really good but don't have much of a hook (except for the amt of time that you work and are still able to maintain good grades). This will come down to your essays and recs.

Good Luck!

Hey evil_robot, been meaning to catch up to you.. I'm a So-Caler from Los Angeles, and looking into Vandy. Any insights? Parents in the P forum told me to come look for you.

Honestly, the difference between all of you and my humble self is that I will be attending Princeton University in September while all of you (possibly) (probably not from reading your responses) will be attending Vanderbilt. I can project that all of you will go to a mediocre college, receive mediocre grades, get a mediocre job, and have a mediocre life. In addition, none of you are nearly as smart as I am. I am in the process of completing research on string theory and almost have my own theory published. I wish all of you the best in your college efforts and hope that you will someday ammount to anything close to what I will be and already am.

Good Day,
PRINCEtonCHARLES2009

tlaktan -

Hey,

I went to Vandy this year from Orange County, after spending a LONG TIME deliberating, with assistance from the parents in the Parents Forum. I'm not so much the partying type and/or the elitist rich white type (more of a nerdy academic type) so I thought that I might have been in for a world of pain coming to Vandy (which has that reputation), but I was incredibly wrong.

Everything, and I mean everything, (well excepting the one time the guy threw up on the bathroom door) has been absolutely wonderful. I've made a core group of like-minded friends and we do stuff pretty much every day, the work load isn't too overwhelming (even though I took 16 hours last semester and got on the Dean's List with a 3.925 GPA - A- = 3.7 :(), I've found a nice girlfriend, etc, etc.

Yes there is a partying scene/some elitist students, but once you get to a certain point, you realize that they are a small minority of the student body. The campus is beautiful, the students are extremely intelligent, the girls are beautiful (well, the guys are too if you're a girl), the facilities are wonderful (we took over a lecture hall at night to watch movies! and then took over a conference room during finals to study :D), the teachers are excellent (great advice, and my advisor has been wonderful in helping me find classes that I'd be interested in). I've gone to the Nashville Symphony twice, attended art openings, gone out to movies, and generally enjoyed the fact that we -are- in a relatively large city. Of course there are bums, and some nights you just really need to do work (it is college after all), and the food is not great (it is not terrible either - except never touch anything at Chef James!), and sometimes my TV blows up (true story), but I've been having the time of my life and am in fact quite bored to be home.

PM me or e-mail me if you have any questions.

You know what I find hilarious about the Princeton guy posts... lol..

First off, I'm no Vandy-fan (although I'm looking at the prospect of it), second off.. if anyone will be receiving mediocre grades, it's you, considering the level of competition at Princeton will be uber-stiff. Third off, I'm not even taking you seriously. Fourth off, if you are real, you are a pompous.. well, let's leave it at that. Of course, you'll be stuck as some research assistant somewhere in the future where you make a measly 120,000 bucks a year, while we'll be in the big leagues.. of course, not because we went to somewhere else and you went to Princeton, but because you're too much of a snob for someone to hire you. You're probably too damn shy to go on television, because you probably spend 16 hours a day in your parents' basement.

Of course, we won't be doing research on some string theory crap, but rather, we'll be out and about, enjoying our political, doctorate, or other careers. We'll have wonderful wives and for the ladies, handsome husbands... Of course, we'll have TIME for love because obviously, you won't, too busy working on your string theory.

Last but most important, we know how to spell the word amount right. We actually take the time to meticulously look over every single aspect of our posts, even if they're on some Internet college website.

Oh, P.S. If you're actually working on string theory, then why the hell aren't you working on that, and instead, bothering us on some college confidential website? Shows what kind of a true "genius" you must be.

Okay, George W. Bush isn't smarter than you are, yet he's still President of the United States, can make sure the rest of your life is screwed, et cetera. Who cares that you're working on string theory? First off, unless by some god-given miracle you've managed to beat out half the scientific community by creating a firm prediction in string theory subject to experimental verification, your research is almost useless. Second, if you have, don't you think you'd be on the cover of Geeks-R-Us? And unless you've been able to come up with exact figures in your research (unlike the approximations that the "inferior" string theory specialists have so far) what makes you better than what the world has already?

As a final note, I'm not even going into the sciences (rather, Political Science/Government), so go away if you even try considering arguing with me on some scientific point. I'm already conceding defeat on that one.

Always in grace,

Tlaktan.

Hey Evilrobot, thanks for responding! (By the way, I'm a guy. :P)

I'm not the nerdy academic type, nor am I the partying or the elitist rich white type.. I'm the Asian, liberal-artsy, aberration-of-society type. :P

Ouch, that's a lot of hours. One of my primary concerns is not leaving my girlfriend here in Los Angeles.. :(.. She's staying, I'm leaving.. major drawback, though..

Hey, I'm all for living in a large city. (Los Angeles, lol!).. Hrmm. interesting analysis of Vanderbilt..

What's the Asian scene like at Vandy? Too many? Too few? (Don't care, either way, unless the campus is like super-saturated with Asian people, then it's going to be crossed off)...

I have a 1360 SAT score, and I'm an Asian.. lol.. which is bound to be a ORM anywhere we go.. but on the plus side, some of the parents have told me that my experience in ROTC will be highly looked upon by the adcoms.. Could you shed some insight into that too?

I knew a few of that type of Asian back from my high school ;).

Vandy is definitely not overpopulated by Asians. They are probably about 7-8% of the student body, which leaves enough people to hang around with, but not enough to go absolutely isolationist Asian.

I don't know about ROTC or admissions really, honestly. I know that the average SAT is somewhere around 1360-1370 for the entering class (2008) and that they like to advertise their unique individuals. More than that I do not know.

i live here in nashville and my school sent about 15 students to vandy last year...the thing is..there were SAT ranges anywhere from 1300s to 1400s, so you're not in bad shape. Although the student asian population is quite small, the overall asian population is pretty large considering the fact that MANY of the research scientists are from China. Good luck!

dear princeton charles, a poem from a literary master attending Vandy,
roses are red
violets are blue
you are a ****head
...assclown...

a tear
p.s., ur dad has oldtimer's disease? its a good thing your dad can remember you got into princeton
oh-btw, New Jersy is gorgeous. ...****head...

(THIS IS NOT ANTSMRCHING BUT SOMEONE ON HIS USERNAME)

Oh Princeton....what a naive young little fool you are. By your posts, I am assuming that you absolutely have no social life at all, and absolutely no common sense. However, I do laud you for your beautiful sermon.....it put tears to my eyes because I found out that there are people who are much more annoying than I am and much more unintelligent than I.
You should first know that Princeton is not even the best university. Yes, in the US News book it is tied for rank #1 with Harvard, but that is only ONE ranking. Out of the other rankings I have seen, Harvard has been number one, and Princeton not even in the top 5 sometimes. So perhaps that you are not as smart as you say you are, because you are not going to Harvard. So much for that little demeaning lecture you gave. Also, its a shame that you could not achieve a 1600. I guess you are not as smart as you say at all.
I have a question for you: Do you really believe that you will become greater than all the rest of us?
I will go to a "mediocre" school and get a "mediocre" education, but I will suceed where you will fail, and my "mediocre" edification will prove to be much more worthy than your "great" education.
Having said that, I will admit that I have much lower scores than you in everything, but in the end, I shall become greater than you will ever know. While I am being saturated with wealth, you will most likely become some janitor at some school, trying to show your greatness by cleaning the floors. I hope you very well in your career, and by the way, I have some poop on the bottom of my shoe. Would you kindly do your duty and clean it please?

Now, Joe. You have excellent stats, and I would say that you will most likely will have no trouble getting in to Vanderbilt RD. As long as your essays are average to good, I believe that you will get in quite easily.
