As the title suggests I’m trying to decide between attending UT or the Honors College at OU. I’m an indecisive individual. I don’t know what I want to study yet, and the minor social differences between the two are of more or less equal value in my book. I know UT is the higher ranked of the two schools, but I don’t know how much of a difference attending the honors program makes. As such I’m unsure whether regular UT or the OU Honors College would appeal more to employers. Any advice or input would be greatly appreciated.
Is one in-state for you, and what is your cost to attend each school? Are finances a concern?
I’m lucky enough to be in a position where finances aren’t an issue.
UT has a better reputation, but OU is a good school with a traditional college campus. My feeling is it will be a lot easier to explore and change majors at OU.
Employers won’t value the college’s namz but what you did while on campus. So, which college offers you the most opportunities in relation to what you like to do?
My daughter is in a similar situation: Texas A&M College station or OU Honors College? Any advice?
OU
UT, the relative location gives you access to jobs in a very large Texas economy.
Depends upon the specific benefits offered by OU Honors College. In short, need more info.
OU Honors is an excellent honors college. It attracts many NMF’s. Norman is also a better college town than College Station.
@twinplusone I think UT is a better option. As someone who lives in Ohio, I can tell you that OU IS a party school. The seniors at my high school (very big high school) tell me that they want to go to OU, because they want to party. I am sure the education is good, but I would take what I said into deep consideration. There are students who are serious about their education at OU, but as of recently, it has been a bit sketchy. I would choose Miami over OU in an instant. It is really up to what your student prefers, though.
@ab2002
OU Norman is in Oklahoma - it’s where NMFs who didn’t get their major at UT or TAMU go.
Thanks, my daughter wants to be a sports management major. The major at OU is a concentration in Price Business School, but at Univ of Georgia (where she also was accepted) and A&M it is in school of ed with basically a business minor in Mays School of Business at TAMU. She loved kids at A&M, but College Station doesn’t appeal to her. However, she doesn’t want a ton of social pressure though she likes to have a good time. OU 20k undergrads and TAMU 55k…Ugh–this is gut wrenching She cannot decide!
Sounds like OU is the best fit: a business school major (more valuable than an Ed major) and a large university but not humongous, a nice college town.
UGA is really nice too and has stronger academics overall but the fact sports management isn’t in the business school makes it one of the ‘less employable’ majors.
