but its all good its not juts about the school is what u make of the school.

Sometimes very qualified students are rejected from UCLA, and other UC campuses, because there was a glut of applicants for a particular major. An applicant is not just competing against every applicant but the specific pool of applicants who specified a popular major, like biology or engineering.

i didnt get into ucla either. my gpa is 4.17 but my sat was low-1780.
i have tons of extra curricular. I got denied from ucsd, and davis. I got into ucsb though, so thats good. i applied to cal but i honestly doubt i got in with my sat. im still waiting for bu, nyu, usc, cornell, cal, and irvine.

so... we will see what happens. but im content with sb.

just remember if everyone says no Riverside still has its doors open. good old Riverside!!

The average GPA of applicants accepted this year was 4.34.

When they make decisions they are in a general pool and dont compare them to the others of in the same field or major. They only time they group them is when they apply to a particular school.

woah that is shocking. your scores are beyond their standards

Kevin:
That is crazy! Your SAT scores are almost perfect and everything else looks sick. I don't know what is up with their admissions team.

we are too good for ucla =[

i was also rejected, but for some reason, like a fool, i still have hope for ucb, i should just give up...

no1 should give up. every1 has a chance at any school. if u think about it if someone with crazy specs like kevin didnt get into UCLA then that means that everything is just random luck. Every one has a chance at any school no matter how high the requirements are.

^"Random luck" is taking it a bit far. Admissions are certainly unpredictable, but you still have to be competitive in some way to get in.

Certainly those people who get rejected could have been qualified for acceptance, and they just fared badly (maybe the admissions people were in a bad mood because they didn't get their coffee that day, or something). But this process does not always work in reverse - though it does happen sometimes, severely unqualified people won't necessarily "get lucky" and get in.

wow kevin...your academic profile is mind-blowing. i got rejected from ucla too but the funny thing is, i wasn't really sad when i got rejected from ucla. i sort of convinced myself to expect it to soften the blow. but what really got me depressed and sad was that when i went to school the next day (today) so many kids that were far below me got in but i didnt TT. their sat was lower. their gpa was lower. etc etc. it crushed me. sigh. i think i need to seriously mope for awhile before i can really get over it. sigh. couldnt even focus on calc test TT

Yep...I got rejected too. I'm seriously ticked off (I would write write stronger words, but CC does have a censor...)

If y'all wanna see my stats: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/what-my-chances/472117-i-m-actually-kinda-nostalgic-last-chances-thread.html

In a nutshell:

2310 SAT, 1580 Math + CR
4.3 Weighted GPA
Good (IMO) EC's...

I'm just hoping for Cal now...

So kevin, about you appeal... :)

Are you just going to say "Hey, look at me again. -Kevin"?

I wonder how many OOS kids got in this year. I'd bet close to none. :p

I wouldn't be surprised if the "too good for UCLA" part kicked in this year...

Hey I am OOS and was rejected. My stats were weak but i had strong extracurriculars. my friend with really high stats was rejected as well... don't know the other three kids who applied at my school but haven't heard of any acceptances. last year they accepted 3/10 from my school (and berkeley accepted 5/10...)

i got rejected..but that was a given considering my test scores...

but alot of my friends who had decent scores got in....but for some reason my friend with a 4.5 W gpa and 35 ACT...not sure SAT score...got REJECTED....

didn't make sense..but she got into UCSD,UCI, and UCSB, (BC honors program,NYU stern., and alot of other well known colleges on the east coast)..im not sure about UCB yet..but ah...i was in shock

accepted into la:
sat - 2170
gpa (weighted) - 4.13
5 ap exams - all 5s
2 community college classes

i'm really confused about how they chose people this year. one of my friends had 4.3 gpa and 2300 on her sats :-

Quote:
i heard rumor that if someone got in, for example, Berkeley, then he or she won't get in LA? because they are in same system. Is that true?

Some cases I've actually 'seen' : White Male last year got accepted to UCD and Cal but rejected from UCSD (a teacher asked him, what did u do when u were rejected from SD? "I cried" "What did u do when u were accpeted to Cal? "I cried again"). Another white male last year was accepted to Cal and UCSD but rejected from LA.

But there are more cases where people get into all SD,LA, and Cal (our val this year for example).

Still, I'd like to give some hopes to that theory.
