Rejected Everywhere. What do I do now? help!

I transferred schools as a middle schooler so I never was able to take those advanced classes in math and science. However, as a freshman I worked really hard to get my teachers to recommend me to take AP classes in Social Studies and English. My classes:

9th:
English 1
Global History
Algebra 1
Living Environment

10th:
English 2 Honors
AP World History
Geometry
Earth Science

11th:
AP Lang
APUSH
Algebra 2
Chemistry

12th:
AP Lit
AP Gov and Politics
PreCalc
Physics
Studio Art 1

I understand my transcript isn’t that rigorous, but I did the best I could in getting the hardest classes (My school only offers relatively few APs).My school doesn’t offer a CS class and I only had room senior year for an elective (Art). My Algebra 2 teacher even wanted me to skip precalc to take AP Calculus AB, but my GC advised against it as kids who had taken precalc are failing in that class.
My school is definitely under performing in a city known for its poverty and crime rates. You probably know what city I’m talking about by now.
I am both first gen and low income and my GC did upload my transcript. And I did not have a discipline incident.
My budget for school is about 10K annually. The geographical restriction are mostly due to my parents’ rules, but I think if I get into a good school somewhere else they’ll let me go.
Sorry for any typos, I wrote this on my phone.

My daughter’s hs courses were similar. She is graduating in May with a degree in civil engineering. Slow and steady wins the race.

Look at the state universities again. Some may have January openings. Have your guidance counselor help you find out why you weren’t accepted at the SUNYs. You might be able to take a few classes at the community college and still start at a SUNY in January.

If the SUNY New Paltz application deadline hasn’t passed, I don’t see why you can’t call them NOW or Monday if they are closed for Good Friday, and ask if they are still accepting applications for a CS major, and if so, apply today. Get your transcripts sent on Monday.

OP, can you commute from Westchester to CUNY-CCNY Grove School of Engineering? Not sure CCNY is still accepting applications for Grove, but I think “general admission” is open until late July. Are you Living in Mt. Vernon?

Grove CS program requires Cal I, II & III. The fact that you are going in with Pre-Cal is a concern, mainly due to the large number of freshman entering college these days with at least AP Calculus, and repeat Calculus I in college. Calculus tends to be a weeder course for CS/Engineering. Good luck and chin up!

You have plenty of APs, no worries. Call SUNY NP. Your stats should be good there. Tuition room and board is $19400. If you are eligible for excelsior, you can afford it.

@MYOS1634 Forgot to tag you.^^^

They wouldn’t let you go beyond that even for a full ride (basically just travel costs, which should be much less than $10,000) if the schools listed in #11 still have them available?

@Jamrock411 Bingo. I can commute by train. I’ll look into CCNY.

If you believe that the math courses in your high school are questionable, you may want to try this quiz to check whether you are ready for calculus 1, and to tell yourself what topics you may need to review before you take calculus 1 in college.

I think going to a community college first could help, then you can maybe transfer to a State/ private college next year

@ClassicRockerDad @HRSMom Just applied to NP. Thanks for the help!

I just want to say that your attitude is amazing! You are taking a disappointment situation and really trying to turn things around. I predict that you will do great in life and wish you all the very best.
Look into West Virginia U if they are accepting applications- it isn’t as far as Arizona so your parents may allow it and they have engineering. It may be an option for you! Looks like your a developing a new list of possibilities.

I think you should forget about GWU, even if they got you off the waitlist, it won’t be affordable, since you can only afford $10,000.
I think you are in the right track by exploring new list by starting with SUNY NP, please do not stop there and do not limit yourself in NE region. There is no difference between NP and a school in TX or OK geologically, they are all far away. If the school fits, you should attend. Your stats are pretty good and you deserve better than WCC.

@iminboiz Just wondering why you are only allowed in the NE + Mid-Atlantic region? Do your parents don’t want you to go far away or you just don’t want to be far away from home?

@naviance thank you! Staying positive is my goal.

“I think you should forget about GWU, even if they got you off the waitlist, it won’t be affordable, since you can only afford $10,000.”

I think GWU is a great school if you are able to find scholarship from outside sources, but if not definitely try SUNY NP or community college.

@artloversplus Good idea. But what do you mean by they are all far away. NP is close to me or at least that what it seems.

@Angelababy30 it’s mostly my parents. And I think GWU will give me a lot of aid so I might as well try to get off their list.

First of all, you have not get admitted by NP, so you need to keep options open.
Secondly, you need to drive about 3 hours round trip to get to NP(assuming Yonkers), as an Engineering student, you will be busy, you cannot afford to go home every so often. If you find a school in TX, you come home twice a year and that is more than enough.

@iminboiz I am waitlisted at GWU too, but I think I might just go with UPenn since they give me a lot of aids. You might want to send them an email about you continued interest and any updates after your submission of you application.
