rejected everywhere. What to do?

Well you let CC people look at your essay…that one problem. Ask an English teacher to make comments about it.

be strong and fight through the tide

Don’t worry too much! Your stats are good. Purdue, in my opinion, will be a sure shot with your stats. It is a good place for engineering and the placement for engineers (international students) is reasonable given the current employment scene in the USA.

Cornell, CMU, UMICH, UIUC, are unpredictable in their admission process. Keep your fingers crossed:)

Funny, I look back at this thread and it makes me smile. When I originally started this thread, I was in one of the ugliest situations of life - full of despair and highly depressed.
Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I just got accepted to EECS at Berkeley. :)

Top school or nothing is not much of an offer on Dad’s part. The acceptance rate for internationals is probably less than 1%.

Gap year seems like a solid option for you. Otherwise, apply to a college with rolling admissions and transfer.

Nice job! Congratulations. Welcome to the USA.

You said you got rejected everywhere, though results hadn’t even come when you said that. Now you get accepted by a school like Berkeley, seems like attention seeking to be honest, or just one of those students “ZOMG I got an A-”. Congratulations regardless, I am an international applicant too and will be going to UCSD, I know it’s tough for us foreigners :)

So many times this season the thread title has stated that the poster got into NO schools (just in the last few days we had “Rejected Everywhere!” “String of Rejections” “Rejected to Everything!”) and the truth was that either the OP got into a safety or is still waiting to hear from some schools. The fake drama and attention seeking is so unattractive. My dear children, do you understand WHY you and everyone else applied to a safety school? It was because of the very real possibility that you might have to go there. Disappointment is certainly a valid feeling. But please, spare us gnashing of teeth, beating of chests and deceptive posts. A bunch of CC’ers rush to offer assistance, only to discover that it’s not needed. Not getting into your preferred college is NOT an occasion for a desperate-sounding post. Please stop, all of you.

Oh, I rather enjoy those posts, and am always happy that of course, the student does indeed have somewhere to go. The posts usually demonstrate that one needs more safety schools, and what defines a safety. (Not a 30% acceptance rate!)

These stories also expose the hubris of Ivy infatuation; one more great life lesson.
