<p>Thanks. That's a really cool college. I love UChicago. It's my second choice without a doubt...but, to be honest, my heart is set on Yale.</p>
<p>With the Northwestern rejection, I feel like I have no shot at Yale.</p>

<p>California, 3.95 UW/4.4 W, 31 ACT, 650-700 range of SAT 2s, great ECs (research, leadership, entrepreneurship, etc.), great recs, one of the top HS in the state</p>

<p>A valedictorian from my high school some years ago was denied by Northwestern, accepted by UChicago, and waitlisted by Brown. Given the arbitrariness of admissions decisions, you could still theoretically get into the schools you mentioned but don't count on it.</p>

<p>I'm not surprised that this year, NU and Chicago seem to give a lot of flipped decisions-- it seems like a lot of people get into one and not the other. NU and Chicago probably "read" applicants a little bit differently and try to pick students who are not only academically qualified, but who also "fit" with the school. Because both have such large applicant pools, they can't pick everybody who is qualified.</p>
<p>Cross your fingers, and remember that college admissions doesn't follow the totem pole that US News puts in our minds. You may very likely get good news from some other schools on your list.</p>

<p>UC and NU are both great schools with very, very, different fits. </p>

<p>UChicago has a quirkier admissions process. I know of people who have gotten into Harvard yet have been denied by UChicago. Besides, now that you're in UChicago, who wants an Ivy anyway? :P</p>
<p>Many, if not most, of the top schools have a quirky admissions process, given the randomness of decisions. However, this doesn't take into the fact that some people present better apps to certain schools than others... that could be the case for the person accepted by Harvard but not UChicago.</p>
