Rejecting Offers Before Official Letter?

Hi everyone,

I got accepted to a teir 1 research program. I have had 2 other interviews with no notifications. I have not received any official notices (only the one unofficial notification that my name was forwarded to the dean for approval).

I need to decide whether or not to interview at my safety school in a few weeks. If I do, they'll fly me in and out in a single day for an abbreviated interview and lunch with graduate students.

I don't want to bother taking a day off of work to interview at my safety school if the "acceptance" that I received from one of my top choices is AS GOOD AS DONE.

My question: can I count on the unofficial acceptance letter to reject the invitation offer?

I’d imagine a one-day trip won’t hurt you much, plus you can talk to the other grad students during lunch and it’ll be a nice experience. Don’t take risk counting on anything unofficial although I’m pretty sure you will get in
