u know that would have been better...
and universities do ofeer that choice bec many int'l take a gap yr before coming...

Perhaps radhika wanted to spend a year maturing and growing and start afresh and not tie herself down to one college when her preferences can change. After all, people, a lot can change in one year.

In fact, Arjun, aren't you the one who wants to transfer to UChicago because you think it'll fit you better than Cornell? And gee, it's been less than a year since you got your acceptance from Cornell?

yep...i thought of it...i agree

but then again...i realized i was being absolutely immature by even entertaining the thought...without even bein to a univ...i was entrtainin weird thghts just bec UChic was smaller in size

melissa, I feel your pain.

Filipino guy having studied in an Indian School (CBSE) in the Sultanate of Oman.

SAT I: 800 Math, 800 Critical Reading, 750 Writing
SAT II: 800 Math II, 790 Physics, 790 Chemistry

Good scores? HA! I assure you, they're not as great as you expect. I'm a guy who NEEDS full aid. I applied to TWENTY-TWO colleges.

And I got rejected from SIX colleges (MIT, Caltech, Wesleyan, Davidson (found out an hour ago), NUS, NTU).

And my friend, who needs no aid, got accepted into TWELVE colleges, TWO rejected.

WHEN IS IT GOING TO BE OUR/MY TURN?

On the plus side, I just found out that the local channel is showing SEASON SIX OF THE X-FILES!

Don't look at me like that.. I NEED some happiness right now.

COOOL... i love X-files. but unfortunately i cant watch it because only one channel broadcasts that movie here and imagine when 2.30 in the morning...

BTW what is your GPA. i think there must be something wrong with your application if they didn't admitt you with all those great scores. ah yeah why didnt you retake physics and chemister once more to make a perfect 3X800 and astonshish them. because, in this tests, the difference between 790 and 800 is not just a 10 points but 8 mistakes more in MAT IIC, about 20 mistakes more physics and about 15 mistakes more in chemistery. Thus if u had taken a perfect score they would have take it for granted that you did a perfect test (in math they can not say to you that you did 7 or 6 or 4 or no mistake so they assume you did no mistakes) instead in physics they know that you have mistaken about 21 question and this really hurts. nevertheless congratulations on you excelent scores.

for those of you who applied to OXY, you got an email saying you were not accepted, or snail mail?

I don't know.. I think the essays sucked big time. And the fact that I didn't do that many ECAs as many of the guys in this forum have.. I really don't know.

X-Files fan too, huh? Which season's your favourite?

No GPA at my school.. bounced from 91 in Grade 9, to 88 in Grade 10, to 92 in Grade 11, to 87 in Grade 12. Yup, there's a pattern.

yeah i really like xfiles but as i told you there has been a lot of time since i watched the last series because of the time when it is broadcasted. about your rejections, i think your grades should be the main reason. if we take a n average it is 89.5 out of 100 which is not very good for this univeristies. mine is 9.05 out of 10 and my GPA and my satII (math IIc 720 bio m670 ita 760) prvented me from applying to the ivies, all the other were quite well

olsi, don't rush into interpreting GPA by your country's standards.

for instance in the netherlands, i think, while the grades are on a 1-10 scale, 9 is almost impossible to attain because of the harsh grading system. i believe that something similar applies to the canadian grading system.

jeanatkin what is your class rank? that might be a better indicator of your academic performance.

regarding those 790 scores on your SAT II's: these scores are practically perfect! these definitely did not need a retake.

mit and caltech in particular rejected you because you probably don't have some international science award (otherwise you would have mentioned it, i guess) and because you are a male. i don't really know much about those other schools.

I'm under the CBSE system, if that helps. Class ranks:

Grade 9: 2/150
Grade 10: 13/150 (bad final exam)
Grade 11: 1/52 (only the Science stream; there were 59 others in the Commerce stream)
Grade 12: 4/52

I seem to be doing badly in the even-numbered years. Coincidence?

Please don't tell me I should've done something extra. Not here, not now, not that I've already taken a gap year (I intern at a newsweekly, and teach Math and Science - high school level). Should I post the r

maxy i am not saying that jeanatkin score are not perfect, but i am saying that taking a 3*800 would have impressed the admissions comete even more. About the GPA you are right i rushed a little. Now that i see his rank i take back what i said because he is wellranked. with my GPA i rank about 3-4 in my class of 48 and about 35fh in my whole school with 450 students. thats why i thought his GPA was not that good. Sorry

I feel good. :)

Anyway, my GC only reported my Class 12 rank (I think), so that might not be too much of a good thing.

Anybody know what happened to melissa and Rishabh? They're strangely silent nowadays. D'you think they got in?

A scary thought occurs to me now and then: what if I don't get accepted anywhere?!! What'll I do? I can't take another gap year.

Any intels know when Swarthmore, Williams and Vassar are coming out with their decisions?

Jeanatkin howcome you already got rejected by NUS and NTU ??

obvious, he needs a lot of aid. nus/ntu doesn even have enough aid for all needy local students.

So they didnt call you for the entrance exam thingy also ?

jeanatkin, the thing that I said about international science awards was by no means directed against you. I was just trying to emphasize the one thing that caltech in particular and even mit looks for in international MALE applicants. i know 2 people who got into mit. a male with international awards and a girl with national awards. The girl was also accepted by caltech.

@ maxy: Did not get any hard feelings. :) I was just anxious. MIT and Caltech were reaches for me. Is it all right to dream?

@ Rishabh16: No, NTU didn't. In fact, that's how I found out I was rejected. I e-mailed them, asking why I hadn't received a mail regarding the entrance exams yet, and they replied saying we denied your application. I went, what the...

Did you apply too?

hmm... my sat scores last year were M 660 and verbal700... this year they are W790 M710 V760 ... i didnt accept colbly last year for i was very unsure of where i wanted to be and the aid package wasnt good enough..
