Relativity School?

Hello, I am new to CC. I was wondering if anyone has any information on Relativity School. Love the concept but it is so new and I have not seen any discussion on here. I would love to get opinions.

I know VP Boyle, the COO of the school. He is brilliant, well connected, and just in general really good at whatever he does. It’s a new program, but I have a strong feeling it is going to be one of the big powerhouses in the next few years.

Be aware that the Relativity School is a for-profit business and is not regionally accredited, with the attendant limits that go along with only a national accreditation (regional accreditation is the “gold standard” for colleges and universities). Relativity is accredited by the Accrediting Commission of Career Schools and Colleges. The regional accreditation organization for California, for traditional colleges and universities, is the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC).

Not saying that this would limit the quality of the training available, but there may be limits to the accreditation for courses attended at such an institution, such as applying for many graduate schools or transferring credit to other, regionally accredited colleges.

Also, for-profit educational institutions have to return attractive margins and growth targets for their investors, something that traditional, non-profit colleges and universities do not.

Caveat emptor.

Among several of my film production friends, this school the subject of much interest here in LA, where I live. With runaway filming a real issue (studios leaving CA for GA, NC, etc.) this is in part a genius move by Relativity Media to use the scads of existing studio space in the LA area – After all, if your soundstage isn’t being used for filming, why not use it for acting class? I’m watching this with interest, too, b/c I think it could be a fabulous experience – especially for kids with interests in film and TV. And the synergy with Relativity, to create a sort of studio system for new actors, is intriguing. Time will tell.

Hmmmm. I have my doubts. But, as you say, time will tell. It’s a huge undertaking.

My daughter just got accepted to Relativity School and is transferring. We see this as a huge opportunity for her to be out in LA having classes held in LA Center Studios. I do know that the students who go there are loving it so far! Personally I think she’ll get more out of the experience they have available to their students than what most colleges have to offer. But you’re right it is very new so we shall see.

my daughter was just accepted. How does your daughter like so far?

Please do your due diligence, Relativity Media declared bankruptcy awhile back, and while they said it wouldn’t trickle down to the school- it has. There is more info on this thread.
