Is there an on-campus thing where you can rent appliances from for the year?

ha...crossed posts...

Move-In Marketplace...

Oh I'm sorry for cross posting!!

Anyone used the above link? Experiences?

PS. THE MICRO-FRIDGE!?!? Best invention ever!! And LOOK -- it has a freezer too! AND CARPETING FOR THE DORM?! Awesome link. :)

My d loved the microfridge and is opting for the biggest one this year, so she can do some in-dorm cooking (nothing complicated...spaghetti, maybe the occasional batch of cupcakes...). That little fridge is awesome too...it does actually keep things frozen, and has vegetable crispers and other amenities of a real fridge/freezer. Other than trying to cook a turkey, you shouldn't have any problems fitting things into the microwave either. The rental company splits the rent and bills half to each roommate if you want to share the cost.

The carpet is very convenient...BUT it is not very good quality. You WILL end up throwing that thing away at the end of the year....and it really needs a pad underneath because it does nothing to mitigate the hard floor. ldgirl is planning to speak with her roommate re: carpet. After a year of nasty carpet, she'd rather purchase her own 8x10 carpet from Target or rugs.com to get a better quality floor covering. If her roommate does the same, they can fit two 8x10s in their 12x16 room.

Btw...if you do purchase a carpet from the Move-in Market, I think the size they have listed for Craige North and the other directionals is too small. You should be able to go up to the next size.

Also, she did buy a desk hutch...it fit perfectly. But, it was a little ugly (basic wood), so she did paint/decorate it. (Girl thing)

How much is the carpeting off that site? I can't access it...
I haven't found any rugs at Target...where else could I get good rugs?

GREAT tip about the splitting micro fridge billl...thats wonderful. I was worried about how we'd split it...

I think, if I remember correctly, it was about $130 for the 10x12 carpet.

Advantages: cheap, big, and delivered directly to your room and waiting for you when you get there.

Disadvantages: Basically disposable carpet, hard if not impossible to clean, too thin without a pad and you could end up spending another $50-100 on a pad.

If you do get the carpet, order the darkest possible...at least stains won't show. Also...I've just started looking around for ldgirl's new rug....but I'd check out the sales at rugsusa.com, rugsdirect.com. Or check out options at Home Depot or Lowes. Another option is to visit carpet outlets.

GetOuttaBuffalo- I got an 8x10 rug/carpet at BJ's. Sam's Club and Costco probably have something similar. It was $60 and is a nice neutral/beige color- you can't beat that! Plus it is really durable. LOL.
