Requesting more aid - would a face-to-face meeting help?

My S received his ‘initial’ aid offer from BU and we are still looking to close a $6,000 gap. He called the FA office to speak to an advisor and was told point blank that nothing could be done other than to accept his offer and file an appeal, and that few appeals are granted. Does anyone have any experience with setting up a visit to the BU financial aid office to make their case in person? Did it work?

im wondering the same thing myself.
your son is actually lucky, in comparison, to be looking at a $6000 GAP because $6000 is all BU is giving me

would we be able to discuss this during those financial aid appointments they offer at open houses?

Yeah, $6000 gap is relatively quite good. I don’t really know if a face to face will help, because all you can do is demonstrate your need. Unfortunately, unless you have some other shocking element about your financial situation, I don’t really see the $6000 gap closing. There are thousands upon thousands who need 5x that much to come to BU. An appeal usually doesn’t yield more than $500-$2000 and an appeal can also be denied by the office, so I would say look into some really good summer saving and perhaps a small loan.

I think it wouldn’t hurt to try it, but even if it doesn’t work, please think optimistically.

I would kill for a $6,000 gap.
Okay maybe not kill…but do something pretty dramatic… yes…
