I was admitted to SCA Film Production. I applied with a 3.83 I believe, solid As and Bs with 1 W up until this spring semester: As, Bs and possibly 1 D. I'm wondering if it's likely that I could get rescinded for it. Spring grades haven't been posted yet so I didn't get a chance to tell my adviser, but how would I go about doing that?

Is your question how would you go about telling your adviser? An email would work.

Can you sign up to re-take the course with a D during the summer? It is best to include your proposed remedy to the situation when you notify USC of the D, so it might help to be able to include the information that you are enrolled to repeat the course before USC entry.

Yes, it is possible that your admission would be rescinded, so it is something you should attend to now.

From posts on college confidential, it seems most students include the information that their uncle’s cousin’s step-brother’s grandma died, and it REALLY affected them, but I think brevity is the way to go.

Include all of your grades (so they see how well you did in the other classes) and then note that you have registered to re-take the class with the D and ask if there is anything else they require.

Definitely cut it down. Get to the point, acknowledge the problem and provide your solution.
“Dear admissions officer, my Spring, 2013 grades were as follows:
Class 1: A
Class 2: B
Class 3: D
Class 4: A
I understand my grade in Class 3 was not typical of my past performance and so I have re-enrolled in that class for the Summer, 2013 term and will have completed it with a satisfactory grade before I matriculate to USC for Fall. 2013. Please let me know if you need further information or explanations.
Sincerely,
redcap”
