How difficult is it to get placed as a research assistant through this program at Berkeley?

Apply but also separately email as many labs as you can. You should be able to get a position if you’re persistent enough.

Are you talking about URAP? To be honest, it’s been historically difficult applying to MCB/IB/any science lab and many of the advisors tell you to apply for less interesting labs. You are only allowed to apply for 3 labs at a time, so choose your labs wisely. Many look very interesting but are also heavily applied for.

If I were you, I would attempt to apply for URAP but also start looking for other methods to getting research. Of all my friends who have research, only 1 has gotten a decent position through URAP. The others either went to URAP and dropped or just mass spammed the professors and got research that way.
