This may be a stupid question, but I’m most likely going to Northeastern next year, but I was offered a tranfer option by Cornell and I was told that as long as I keep my grades up, I should gain admission. Cornell is a dream school of mine, so I most likely will apply to transfer. However, before I do this, I wanted to get some more research under my belt. There’s a professor at Harvard who isn’t super well-known (so I don’t think his popularity will be out the roof), and he’s performing research on a VERY specific topic. I looked all around Northeastern’s website as well as Tufts, BU, BC, etc…I can’t find this research anywhere else. I also have experience in researching the topic at a local prestigious university where I live, and I plan on assisting through out summer. Would it be crazy to reach out to the Harvard professor asking if I can assist as he continues his research through fall/spring semester? I know he will most likely not respond, or politely decline, but is the possibility of him saying “yes” so far-fatched? Are Harvard professors ever open to undergrads at other Boston universities assiting them in research. I know I’ll have amazing opportunites at Cornell to perform research (if admitted), but I would like to continue my research from the summer (although it’s not an actual continution, it’s the same topic).
No harm in asking.
I know Tufts students do research at Harvard and Harvard supports multiple NSF REU sites (summer research opportunities where all college students can apply)
I also know a student from UMass that is doing research at Harvard as freshman and during the year (not summer program.) Nothing to loose by asking.
Out of curiosity, were you given a verbal transfer option? Seems strange - have never heard of that possibility at Cornell or anywhere else. My son is wait listed at Cornell and admitted NU Honors so I’m curious.
NM - found info on Google
@pmassist Cornell offers certain denied students guaranteed sophomore transfer if they maintain a 3.0 GPA at another 4 year college freshman year. It is one reason Northeastern ended full tuition merit scholarships and now offers some students merit aid only starting in sophomore year.
Wow that’s crazy. Seems like schools like Cornell could have their pick of qualified transfer applicants without doing guaranteed transfer. Sorry for getting thread off track; good luck in whatever you decide.
