Hi, I’m planning on applying to SCU as a premed. I was wondering if SCU has a lot of research opportunities for biological sciences, since I heard SCU is primarily a strong engineering school. Also, would these research opportunities be summer-only or year round? Could anyone give me some insight? Thanks
Hello,
I am a current student at SCU. I study engineering, but i think i can answer your question. You probably wouldn’t have too much trouble finding research opportunities at SCU for Biology. All of the science professors are constantly conducting research, and always are seeking out student’s help. There are summer opportunities, and there are also year-round opportunities. I don’t think there is more of one or the other. Making connections with some of your professors, which is easy to do at SCU given the small class sizes, will take you a long way here. Granted, no matter where you go to school you will likely face some rejection in the process. Bio is a slightly larger department than Physics and Chemistry, which are known to be small, tight-knit, and easy to land research. All in all though, you’d have a much easier time doing so here than at a lot of schools.
