when writing down research experience in the resume, how much detail should I go into? My understanding is:
1)research institution (university)
2)awards
3)time spent

should I indicate the topic of research? Also, if I attended a research program (not a super presitgious one), is it better to indicate that?

I would think that the depth of your description really depends on how applicable the research experience is towards whatever you are writing the resume for. If it is, expand on things. If not, leave it to the basics.

If the research is a significant portion of your resume, then I would definately ellaborate on your responsibilities and contributions to the project, similar to what you would do when listing your work experience.

no no u ppl hav got it wrong..when stating anything pertaining to the research in the application.....

u should refrain from stating the impact and personal side of the story.

Unlike the work experience a research may be supplemented with a small comment on what u liked and learnt but it should more focus on the technical aspects of the research..

Like u must mention the topic of the research....the ppl invloved , the ideas and concepts , theme, organisation and a glimpse of the whole thing. Some univ adcomm have these abstracts sent to college professor for review also......

And yes ...research work is among the few impressive things that any adcom would really like for the sheer little number of ppl who do it
