I possibly want to be a research librarian. I know that you have to get a master degree in library science. But what are some good options for undergraduate majors? Should I major in Information Technology? Should I double bachelor?

I work in an academic library. Most of the librarians I’ve worked with have unique backgrounds. One studied business as an undergrad, another studied History, etc. The woman that studied business made that her specialty if I recall correctly. If the Information Technology major interests you, go for it! My point is that there are several paths that may lead you to your career goal. Do you have specific interests?

When I inquired about being a specialized librarian, I was told to major in what interested me. From there I could get a masters degree in that subject to be further specialized and then a second masters in library science. My impression is that there isn’t one set path.

hope this helps a bit!
