I'm currently a high school senior and I've decided to take a year off after high school. I'm not applying to any colleges this year (yes, I do know that I can apply to schools this year and defer admission, but for various reasons I'm not planning to do that). For now I'm just doing in-depth research about all the colleges I'm interested in, researching/applying for scholarships, and working through my senior year.

My interest is in the science field, so far I've taken all the available challenging courses at my high school in science. I'm regretting not looking into research opportunities that were available the summer before my senior year. I've been googling for any research opportunities for gap year students but all the research opportunities are not what I'm looking for... Most of the research programs I've found were available to undergraduates or high school juniors.

1) I would really appreciate any information any of the members on this community have about any other research programs or how to go about independent research.

2) Also, do some universities with summer research programs for undergraduates ever accept high school graduates?

3) Internships! I'm also considering internships but I'm unsure how to go about getting one and finding one that is within my field of interest (biology, physics).
