I have been admitted to Brown (yay!) and was wondering if any current students could offer any input on research opportunities. Are students paid to work in the lab? How readily available are research positions for underclassmen (Biology concentration)? And, as a side note, do Brown undergraduates do well in the competition for prestigious graduate schools (Johns Hopkins in particular)? Thank you all for any insight you can lend me.

P.S. Does Brown have a Muggle Quidditch Team?

I have several friends who work in labs and help professors with research (yes, paid). I know research in many departments, including biology; however, it’s still hard to get these jobs as a freshman (though definitely not unheard of).

Brown does amazingly in grad school admissions (it is an ivy league school after all). We have some of the best numbers in the country of getting students into good grad schools. Something like 90-92% of students get into at least 1 of their top 3 grad school choices. I really think you’ll be happy with what Brown has to offer.

I don’t think we have a Muggle Quidditch Team (but that doesn’t mean you can’t start one!! )
