Are they hard to get?

The internship & carrer center, and by talking to your professors and seeing which projects interest you.

Depends on the project. Usually though, it's very simple to get into a research project if you can prove to your professor that you're going to be very committed and you have a genuine interest in the subject.

Depends a bit on the field I guess (engineering internships are almost impossible to get as a freshman); this is my experience in bio.

Ask professors whos research interests you. Don't be too focused on one specific topic. You are only a freshman, and your interests will likely change over the next 4 years.

As a first year freshman, it may be difficult to find a position where you actually do research without some prior experience or coursework. I know quite a few freshmen who were not able to get a position because of lack of coursework. I got my position because I had prior experience.

Some advice: As a freshman, they may stick you with ummm.. not fun things to do (Luckily I got to do real work). I suggest you stick with it, because eventually you will be doing actual work. Also, performance in coursework comes before research. Even with research experience, no top school will accept you with less than a 3.0. GL!

Thank you guys for your help! :)
