Paper says that, relative to fat-free mass (FFM), total energy expenditure (TEE) mostly follows a per-law relation.

However, it also notes that infants (age <1) had very high size-adjusted energy expenditures compared to adults, but size-adjusted energy expenditures declined through childhood (age 1-20). Adults (age 20-60) largely had stable energy expenditure, while older adults (age >60) showed decline somewhat beyond that attributable to decline in FFM.
