hey guys it's my first time writing a research paper and i have absolutely no clue...so, how do cite works within the paper itself? for example, when you write a paraphrase or direct quote from a magzine, in the parentheses next to it, what exactly do u write?

Google MLA citations.

Haha I'm just going to cite myself:

As Leah377 says, "Research papers are unfortunate" (Leah377, 88).

Components:
a.) "As Leah377 says," - this is your intro phrase
b.) actual quotation - don't include ending punctuation unless it's an exclamation or question
c.) "(Leah377, 88)" - this is the actual citation. The "Leah377" part would be the author's last name, and the "88" is the page number. Note that the period goes after the quotation and citation.

This is MLA style, and I know a decent amount about weird cases you may come across, so if you have any questions you can PM me. :)

LOL thanks that was very helpful

google purdue OWL (online writing lab) it's SUCH a big help
