Research Science Institute Internationals?

Hello Everyone,

I don't know if this is apt to put this thread on MIT forum, but I am going to ask about International RSI Scholars. I know that A LOT of domestic RSI participants are offered admission to MIT. However, recently I read a thread on CC and it was saying a lot of International Scholars were denied admission, unlike domestic participants. Is that true? If so, what is the reason? Both the domestic and the international participant should be extremely qualified to make it to the RSI... Is it because that they performed poorly as they weren't proficient enough in English?

What RSI Scholar would trust this as a data source?

“Quite a few international participants at RSI were rejected at MIT. I don’t know, however, of any domestic rickoids who were rejected this year.” someone with an account name of “randomperson” posted this on http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/massachusetts-institute-technology/181146-rsi-mites-mit.html</a> this thread

AND, I don’t know. That is what I am asking.

MIT has always had a lower admit rate for international students, as you can see here: [Admissions Statistics | MIT Admissions](Admissions statistics | MIT Admissions)

Admissions Statistics for the class entering in Fall, 2012
Percentage of applicants admitted: 8.9%

This data shows that MIT admitted around 11% of domestic applicants but only 3% of international applicants.

So yes, MIT’s admissions policy probably accounts for a lower admission rate of RSI Scholars.

OK, I got your point! Thanks

I don’t know if that’s true or not. But according to what I know, two international RSI scholars last year in my hometown got into great schools. One of them, an Asian boy, got into MIT with a SAT1 lower than 2200. Another girl got into Stanford.

So the other girl didn’t get into MIT? Or did she just pick Stanford over MIT?

Sorry I have no idea.
Good luck anyways.
