Darn i don't know any programming. Dang thats gonna kill me. and my psat is only 223.

Don't worry about a lack of programming skills too much. Those questions are more for matching you to a lab/mentor/project that meets your skills, rather than determining how qualified you are for RSI.

I was accepted, and I only know Pascal. That should tell you all you need to know.

I was accepted, and I only knew Microsoft Office [and Maple...(I just had to throw that in there)].

Oh whew. I did lemelson-MIt program last year and am co-captain this year, think it will help? We got a 10,000 dollar grant from MIT to work on a project and then this year we got a 2000 dollar grant. Only problem with me, is that i don't have too much science research. My area has a lot of oppurtunites for bio but i hate bio. There is like very little for engineering adn chemistry for high schoolers.

should the 3-5 questions on our field we have to talk about sound like a research paper, or be written in first person? Mine sounds a lot like a research project I did for a class in school. Should I add more lines liek "I think this is important...."?

Hey wtrbear, I'm a BIG fan. :)

Of me or my mad computer skillz? :P

No face? Not cool...

I'm pretty sure you can submit a third recommendation. However, make sure that your third recommendation is actually necessary and that it will indeed reveal more about you as a person. Since it is only requested that you submit two recommendations, it is probably a good idea for you to pick and choose carefully which two you would like. Quality over quantity.

And yes, question number seven is referring to the checkboxes, I think. I looked at my application from last year, and I didn't have anything typed for number seven.

I just found out about this program (i know, i'm a slacker:)), but do you have to have an ACT to apply? My PSAT is good enough to get in

Did you have to recieve a letter to apply?

Thank you ilikepi! I like pi(e), too, btw haha!

D-Yu, I'm glad you found out about RSI! It's an amazing program. You still have time to apply. In response to your question, I do not believe you need to have taken the ACT to apply. I'm not sure what letter you are referring to, but I do not think you need a "letter" to apply.

I would greatly appreciate if someone would double check/confirm my response. Thanks!

How much time/effort should be invested into #2 (the questions you find interesting about your selected fields)? Im doing a ton of research and everything about what Im writing, and Im beginning to think its not as big of a deal as I'm making it. Anyone have some information on this? What else should I spend a lot of time writing/explaining in detail?

so u should choose wisely on ur two recommendations... but let's say i bombed my PSAT verbal section and writing was crap due to the huge curve, and I want to prove that I'm a good writer (not that I'm not, really), can I use my English teacher as a resource and additional recommendation? I'm already using my physics teacher and two college professors as recommendation sources.

Rick, it's totally fine to make it a big deal (as long as you somewhat respect the length limits - do they even have those this year?). Think about it this way: why would you possibly not want to spend a lot of time/effort writing about something that you care about? Anyways, it sounds like you're on the right track.

So I was wondering, were these answers supposed to be super formal? I'm rather writing mine a little conversational-y. I mean, I'm not saying 'crap' or 'bahhhh' but I'm not emulating the research paper voice either..help?

oh crap... i looked at the application form, turns out I don't know any of the computer programs (I knew I should have taken computer tech this year!). i'm a pretty good writer, but this section will kill me. My school also only offers regular courses, and only 1 AP. Maybe I should just better not apply...:(

D-Yu: I'm pretty much in the same boat :/ Our school has several AP courses, but theyre almost all limited to seniors since you have to take a whole bunch of prerequisites to be able to take the AP course...so basically I am only taking 1 AP science this year and this is my first AP. (I plan on taking calc bc and the other sciences senior year)

Also idk any computer stuff either lol.

My school doesn't have any AP classes except for English.
Can you apply to RSI as a senior? By then, I woulda taken Computer Tech, and got some standardized test scores (right now, I only have my PSAT's and not taking the SAT until march)

Yeah, I'm pretty much screwed for this year's application, especially with all those students who are techno-geniuses that could turn a Window 98 into a Vista with nothing but a q-tip and screwdriver. I mean, I know my way around my PC, but that's nothin.

Ok, you do not need to know all sorts of programming to be considered for RSI unless you specifically request to do a computer science project. I feel like we've said this before..

Be as formal as you would for a college application. How formal would you be personally? I don't know.

If you’re a junior, why not apply?
