What about SATs taken many years ago to qualify for other programs? I did fine on the math section, but the verbal section (yeah that far back) wasn't that amazing and it was mostly due to the fact that well... I was young.

The problem is i got a 223 on psat with 80 on math, but only got a 2130 on SAT with a 760 on Math. i have not taken math 2 yet and got a 760 in SAT chem. A 5 in ap calc AB and a 5 in ap chem.

Personally, I think you're fine, because 760 is only really one question off, and I bet they know that. :)

Can you apply to RSI as a senior?

Seniors are not eligible for RSI. Juniors only, with occasional exceptions made for extraordinary sophomores.

Both 80 and 760 are high enough math scores, but the application is much more than standardized test scores. You need to find a way to stand out from the rest.

grade restrictions? what? coughkitarmstrongcough

Kit Armstrong. Certainly not an average RSI attendee.

Oh my gosh guys. I'm new here, but... I just read the entire RSI 2005 thread. Yes. All 169 pages of it. I didn't mean to, honest!...it was just like a novel. I was actually planning to do other stuff today, so much for that.

As for the RSI 2008 thread, I got to page 10 and decided I finally had to stop (I'm applying this year by the way). So hi.

Are we so much less interesting than the Rickoids of 2005 and earlier?

Well, I did eventually go back to where I left off on pg. 10 and read to this current point...shows my obsession. Maybe I should put that on my application. =P

I do think it's interesting that several parents have posted here already, whereas in 2005 there was only one (and that wasn't until after admissions decisions).

More parent-involved environment these days, I suppose?

hey guys....on the application, for essay 2, are we supposed to put 3 to 5 questions/problems total, or 3 to 5 for each field, resulting in a total of 6 to 10?

yup....i'm applying too lol. thanks for the help.

You're supposed to write 3-5 questions per field. I think I just wrote 3 per field, 6 total.

Kit Armstrong - became a full time undergrad student when he was .. 9 yrs old? And I heard he knows how to play the piano, too :) Besides really rare exceptions, rickoid hopefuls are supposed to be rising seniors.

Is it acceptable to send in info after the registration deadline has passed?
I don't know how much it would help the application, but things like USABO/USNCO semifinalist or regional science fairs that qualify to ISEF happen between the February deadline and the March notification. Not sure if sending in a letter with any late accomplishments is worth it - it would probably be a pain to go through the thousands of applications just to put them together...so what do you all think? I'm not sure if semifinalist is really that important at all...

If you feel that accomplishments that you make after the registration deadline can give a better view of who you are and where your passions lie, definitely send them in. However, if they are essentially trivial and you're thinking of doing it simply to increase the length of your list of awards, I wouldn't recommend sending them.

1) Out of curiosity, what was the male:female ratio last year?

2) For technical skills, should I mention TrueBASIC and TI-BASIC, if I already know more advanced languages? Or would that be overkill?

1) uhhh.............

2) Overkill? No.

How long are you guys spending on the app. Its seems like except for number 1, the rest is all listing out stuff. Where is the place where you distinguish yourself? How do you distinguish yourself. I don't have research, there are like no oppurtunities for my interests in my area. There is so much bio stuff in my area; i hate bio. Whats makes a candidate distinguished? This q. is for the kids who did rsi in the past. That would be helpful. Why do you think you got in?

Hmm...I would not suggest turning your essay section into a series of lists. Essays are where you ideally distinguish yourself.

Well q's 5-8 are list scores or technical skills etc. THe place where they ask you about ec's is almost gonna be just a list in essay form right? Or are we supposed to elaborate each one, and tell how it changes us or something?

Question #1 is hard, are they asking what job careers we are looking for. Do they want us to be specific?

Actually, I think I'm spending more time on number 2 than the rest of them combined.
