@toughman, LuoSciOly
Thanks so much for your help, it makes me feel a bit better. I’m trying to do some learning on my own, so I guess I’ll see how that goes. Thanks again!

so is the application out? my child can’t find it anywhere and when I looked it said it wasn’t out yet…

The application isn’t out yet. When it is, you’ll be able to find it at [Apply to RSI | Center for Excellence in Education](Apply to RSI | Center for Excellence in Education).

In past years, the application hasn’t been released until the second half of November.

This was posted on RSI web site…
“Note: RSI application is being updated for 2014”.
I wonder if the app has been out somewhere I could not found.

I’m taking the PSAT soon and I’m hoping for around a 240. Now it’s the silly mistakes that will get me. Anybody else taking PSATs? Any tips?

If I don’t get a good score, I will have to study for and take the SATs before RSI applications, which will add unwanted pressure…

Also, does anybody know if I need to have a certain number of SAT IIs done for RSI apps? I’m sure there’s a site with all the answers to these little questions I have, I just can’t find it.

Bump, please help w/ the last part ^ if you know something.

Do we need to take the SAT subject tests? I have only taken the PSAT.

@BurnOut and @starchow: You don’t need to have taken any SAT Subject Tests to apply for RSI, but you can put them on your application if you have taken them. Just having the PSAT is fine.

Thanks LuoSciOly. I have a concern about what you wrote in RSI 2015, but I’m saying it here instead…

I know you say that great STEM extracurriculars or research is not needed (and that kinda reassures me because my SciOly team is a joke that never even meets up and the extent of my research is some basic coding with an astronomy professor). However, if an applicant does not have amazing experiences in STEM extracurriculars or research, then what should the applicant write about? Isn’t there an essay that asks you to describe your experiences in your subject of interest? And I can’t really talk about the amazing times I’ve had studying physics by myself, can I?

@BurnOut: There is an essay that asks you to describe your science/math related extracurricular activities and hobbies. (It doesn’t necessarily need to be in the specific field of study that you applied for.) I would just treat the essays as an opportunity to tell the selection committee about any cool stuff you’ve done relating to science and math. “Cool” does not necessarily mean you’ve won Intel or USAMO. In my essay, I talked about some of the interesting stuff I was studying for Science Olympiad and some of the fun math competitions I’d competed in. If you enjoyed your work with the astronomy professor, by all means write about that. It’s certainly more research experience than I had before RSI. If you had fun and/or learned something doing it, it’s perfect material to be a component of a good essay.

Hope this helps. I wish you the best of luck. :)

Oh my god I now remember the times last year I was asking @LuoSciOly about RSI. It is like a dream that I got to meet him last summer :)) Luo, “The king of RSI threads” :PP

@toughman haha that’s nice of you to say. I just remember how people like @atomicbaseball were very helpful and reassuring when I was applying, and my hope/goal is that applicants this year (and in future years) also will be able to have that help and reassurance.

Oh yeah it is another wonder that I also got to meet @atomicbaseball! :’) I believe @atomicbaseball has been “your LuoSciOly” :P

My son took SAT1, SAT2(Bio&Math), and PSAT.
Does he need to send all scores, or only PSAT scores?
Plz advise.

If so, how can he get SAT1/2 scores?
Do we have to ask to collegeboard?

Last year, I sent in unofficial paper copies of all my test scores with my application packet, along with an official transcript (no first semester grades, since the RSI deadline was before my school could process our grades).

Then, I had my counselor mail in official records of my grades and test scores with the application, once my first semester grades were finalized. I specifically asked her to print out my score reports and write a note describing that she had verified the results in the report. I did not send in scores from the CollegeBoard, as there is no option to do so from the CollegeBoard site.

CompSciStudent, thank you!

My son has only PSAT score as a paper copy.
Did you send SAT1 or SAT2 scores?
As you know, we can see our scores only on the web.
Can we just print out and send them with application packet?

No problem at all!

I sent in paper copies of my SAT I and SAT II scores, which I printed from the CollegeBoard site.

@CompSciStudent

I really appreciate your help!!!
Thank you again!

It is my pleasure :)

If anyone else has questions, please feel free to ask. I will do my best to respond :)
