I am a freshman at school of engineering new brunswick campus. I emailed couple of professors asking them if they need students to help them with their research but no one replied back.
How should I approach the professor so that I get a reply from them? What else can I do in my freshman year on top of having good grades to make sure I am on top of the game?
Thanks for the help.

Some professors are not so great with e-mail. Try going to a networking event in the professional engineering society of your choice (ASME, AIChE, IIE, ASCE, etc.) and talk to some of the professors there.

Which engineering are you interested in? I know some are easier to get into than others. (Materials Science professors are always looking for undergrads, for instance.)

Maybe this might interest you as well:
[ARC: Aresty RA Program](http://aresty.rutgers.edu/arestyra_prospective.htm)

thanks for the replies guy and thanks for the link MushaboomBlue. I’ll make sure I apply there.
I am currently between Aerospace Engineering and Electrical and Computer Engineering but I wouldn’t mind getting into research in some other engineering program.
When I send the professors the first email, what should I include? So far I’ve only been including general information about myself.

Oh, hey, I just remembered I got an email about the Undergraduate Research Society.

“The meeting will be held on Wednesday, November 10, 2010 at 7pm in Room 122 BC in the BCC, and will serve as an introduction to the society for students who are not currently involved in research as well as an opportunity to integrate these students with those who are currently doing research.”

Sorry, I’m not really sure what to put in an e-mail; a short introduction seems fine.
