It seems that research is a popular type thing around these parts… as someone who is into that myself, I am interested to see what others have submitted.

Have you had a summer (or otherwise) research experience? Where was it? Have you gotten published? First author? What sort of stuff have people been doing? And finally, ED/RD? and what is your intended major?

Just curious, I think that it would be interesting to get a list going…

I have had research experience. I began my project last year, and I am continuing it this year. I do my work at my school (my state's math and science academy). I am using western blots and immunodetection to determine if dopamine causes a protein to be produced in mouse neurons, and if that protein is responsible for changes in the growth of synapses on these mouse neurons.

My results so far: almost nothing conclusive so far. My tests really weren't working last year, I think I found out why this year (I found that I was killing my cells with excess dopamine). I can't really get published, because my research is still a work in progress (well, I could potentially have a successful western blot by tomorrow, but we'll see). I had an advisor, but this was my own project, my own idea and all of my own work. I had essentially complete control. It was great.

I'm RD to cognitive neuroscience. I'm very interested in neuro research, look at my posts on the Brown applicants roster for more info about what I want to do.

My results have been inconclusive... until today. I got data, just not great data. But it's a start... I need to do many more replicates, but I'm so happy I have something.

Anyway, any other Brown researchers out there?
