Hello,

I am a member of the Class of 2017 and was given some work study money. I applied to UROP, but due to an abnormally large amount of applications this year, they waitlisted me. Chances of getting taken in from the waitlist are extremely low, so I was wondering if I could do some other research, preferably for professors. My question is about the process. Which professors would I have to email. Is there a list of professors that need student researchers or something of that nature? Any input would be appreciated.

The professor I do research with is one I had a class with. So I’d say if possible, take a class with a professor you’d like to do research with you think, and then just ask them after the class is over.

If you do happen to get into UROP at some point, I wouldn’t recommend doing it. I think I got waitlisted freshmen year too and got in for sophomore year. If you’re going for credit, the only benefit is that you get research contacts from the program. All other work is completely useless and the required research hour quota is annoying. If you can get research outside of UROP, just do it that way.
