Gonna see what tomorrow brings…

Isn’t it tomorrow yet?

D sent me YSM’s match list. I guess it looks good. What do I know? At least she has exclamation points on it.

Hope you got where you wanted to be. ;)

Curm,

I guess Shades is out celebrating. Certainly deserves it. It’s parents like you and me hanging around CC trying tonight curious to find out who hit the ball out of the park.

Going to pay very close attention since we are about to enter the residency match process…kid is very confused about what he wants to do…right now leaning toward ENT, had been thinking pediatric surgery prior to that…he’s halfway through his surgery rotation and really enjoying it. He’s getting great evaluations and feedback so it’s going to be interesting.

My school’s match list looks pretty good this year, much better than I’d figure from the average USMLE score of the graduating class so hopefully our school name means something in the application process. My graduating class, I have a feeling, will rock the match next year.

So I was supposed to go out and party tonight (last night? who knows?) but I thought I would take a nap this afternoon since I was exhausted, and well… here I am. I woke up to a text from a friend who’s very upset about losing her camera and jacket at the club, so maybe it’s better I was safe at home sound asleep.

The match was good to me. I’m going to a program in the top half of my rank list. I am a little bummed that I didn’t make it to my #1 because I was super-psyched about that place, but I really can’t complain about where I’m headed. It will be a great experience, and I’m willing to bet that no one else will have the crazy stories that I will. I’ve already gotten congratulatory emails from my program director and chairman, and I really look forward to working with them.

I’ll post with some general thoughts about this year’s match overall later on. Thank you to BRM for his advice and to everyone who’s been cheering me on over this last year. I can’t tell you how much it means to me.

Just a note about the match. Hubbell got his first choice and will be heading off to Vanderbilt in a few months. His school held a large party at a ranch with catered food while each student walked up on a stage to open their envelopes. Since it was St. Patrick’s Day, and the beer was flowing freely, there was a lot of green and a few people dressed as leprechauns running around. There were shouts of joy and a few tears as the envelopes were opened. I am glad this process (4 years of college, 4 years of medical school etc…) is wrapping up and at least one of my sons is about to leave the family payroll(we also traded in his 10 year old honda this week and he got his new wheels). I am glad to see the next generation getting ready to be handled the reins of this nations health care, my cohort(the babyboomers who attended medical school in the 1970’s), are looking forward to retirement in the next several years, and I hope you will all make us proud.

Shades and Hubbelsdad,
Congrats to you both. I look forward to chiming in the same tune as you in another 3 years, H’sdad. 8-)
