Considering RC next year. Does anyone have any current observations/experience?

I’m an RC freshman and I love it. My first year seminar was great. It was really small (around 15 students) and we all got to know the professor really well. (He wrote me a great letter of recommendation for a scholarship to which I applied.) It was a really great experience, even though it wasn’t my first choice of topic. It was on the Holocaust; I had to take it because there were very few spots available in general, and I had to take a seminar that counted for Honors, too. But, in the end, I’m really glad I took it!

As for the language requirement. I can tell you from my experience that the RC language program seems to be much better than LSA’s. I’m taking Intensive French right now and it is, indeed, quite intense. (You have to be really dedicated to learning the language in order to do well and have any chance of liking the RC.) Also, I feel that I’m getting a lot more out of this first semester than I have out of my 3rd year LSA Spanish classes. In the RC, a lot more emphasis is put on speaking. In the LSA classes that I’ve taken, at least so far, even the professor occasionally speaks English.

And, as far as I’ve heard, East Quad is going to be really nice next year, which I’m sure is reason enough for some freshman to apply… :)
