Response to bigoted and hateful speech incidents on college campuses?

Any ideas on how the administration can create a formal outlet to respond to hateful speech/mentalities incidents that occur on college campuses (especially for small schools- communities of less than 2000 people)

Like maybe a referendum of some sort?

public forum to discuss university policy on hate speech?

hate speech IS protected under the first amendment, though, so in all honesty the university can't do very much to punish it.

Even at a private college?

What exactly are you looking for? Are you looking for a forum for discussion. If so, does your school have a newspaper that you could write in to? If you want the school to punish it, as leah377 said, that won't work (and IMO shouldn't).

Nope the first amendment only prevents the government from passing laws restricting free speech. Assuming this is a private university (probably is if it's <2000 people) the college can restrict whatever speech they want for whatever reason. If they wanted, they could expel you for saying that you don't like the color green.

sorry; i was assuming that we were talking about a public university--private colleges can absolutely restrict speech in any ways they desire.
