but… to clarify, no colleges require both SAT and ACT with the exception of one I think (sophie davis?). and they really, really don’t care which you send them. I read a post a while ago in the john hopkins forum and an admissions officer from that school actually posted and insisted that it doesn’t matter which you send.

For Harvard: (25th percentile/75th percentile)
ACT Composite: 31 / 35
ACT English: 32 / 35
ACT Math: 31 / 35

If you think you really can improve your ACT, then id maybe study a lot over the summer and get really comfortable w/ it and take it in September…
For SAT, i’d do a practice test and see how well you do to see if it’d be good to take it or not…
best of luck!

I got a 190 on the PSAT, but I didnt study all that much for it.

I am giving the SAT subject tests in June because I think they are more important than SAT since I already have a good enough ACT.

Should i count on giving the SAT in october or no?

Ultimately, I think you should wait until the ACT writing scores come out then use these tables to convert your ACT score to SAT: [ACT-SAT Concordance](http://www.act.org/aap/concordance/index.html)

If you are satisfied with that ACT/SAT score, no need to take the ACT or SAT :]
Your ACT score isn’t bad at all (I got a 32 as well), but if you want to try to get that extra point or two, it wouldn’t hurt to try it again…
As for the SAT, I don’t think you need it in all honesty…if you’re going to take any test at all, I’d take the ACT again because you’re already familiar with the format and question types, so it’ll be easier for you to improve with practice

plus, colleges don’t see how many times you take the ACT!

thanks Dana…yeah i havent sent any of my ACT scores to my high schol either, so it wont be on my transcript.

Should i send this APRIL ACT to my high school or wait til after I get my june scores?

Ok, so I have decided I am not going to give the SAT because I will have to put in too much work when I can do the same and hopefully increase my ACT.

So, I think my final decision is I will retake the ACT this june and the SAT Chem and
Math II subject tests. Hopefully preparing for the Math 2 will help me increase my ACT math to a 36 and then I will try to maintain my science and english and try to greatly improve on Reading to about 31 or 32.

Sounds perfect :]
Good luck!

A 32 is really good, but why not retake? It can’t hurt… I got a 34 and I’m definitely gonna retake because I know I can do better than that… You have nothing to lose by retaking other than thirty bucks and four hours on a saturday morning…

^ i am actually reevaluating. I lose 30 bucks, saturday morning, and I will have to study for it again too. I am taking the SAT II the week before and I just think im burning out with all this test-taking. It is seriously starting to wear me out and it is affecting my motivation. I need advice.

by the way, if I take it another time, it will be my 5th time. According to a thread I just saw, http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/act-preparation/699611-best-books-strategies-raising-31-33-36-a.html some schools require all the test scores from the ACT to be submitted. Will this be looked down upon?

I know someone who had a 32 and got into Vanderbilt without submitting any SAT scores, so i think you will be okay.
Espcially alot of ivy schools middle 50% have composite scores between a 30-35

Will getting a higher score than 32 make me stronger for the BS/MD programs or should i now focus on my SAT IIs and extracurriculars?

same question… should I retake the ACT?

I was initially pretty content with my scores:

33 composite

35 math
35 english
32 reading
29 science

But then I got an 8 on the essay, which clearly sticks out against my other scores.

How critical is it that I retake the exam?

This is definitely a bummer.

LAJ, please don’t worry about your essay score that much. 35 english shows that you’re proficient in grammar, but you were pressed for time on that essay. I got a 35E 8W, too. If I had a lot of time, I certainly could’ve done better than an 8. Schools really don’t seem to care as much about writing as your other things.

xLAJ, no need to retake it…
plus, your essays should show your writing more than the writing score :]

To post 29

I think if you countinue to take the ACT, say you stop after taking it 7 times… with scores of ( just a example): 25, 26, 28, 30, 31, 27, 33… since so much could have been done to ( what many may call) confuse the system/ adjust it… when reviewing all scores they may not actually see your 33, 31 and to be fair 27 etc… as your actually score due to so much time retaking test… they could resort to averaging the scores out when making the finial decision on accepting you ( looking at academics)… though ofcourse your high score would likely be taken to be place in their grading system where they report overall student body ACT etc… I probably didn’t explain it all that well.

Theres this nice little book called “Dissecting the ACT” on amazon, written by a two students, one of which who recieved a 36 on the ACT. I myself have looked over the book and found his strategies and insight into the test extremely helpful, especially for 10 dollars. On top of this, I found the Real ACT prep guide extremely useful just for the real test material. I was able to raise my score up to a 34 from a 30 using some of the techniques in this book!

Hi, I just got my ACT scores for the April 09 test and was wondering if i should retake as well. Please reply?

composite: 33
english: 32
mathematics: 34
reading: 36
science: 28
writing(essay):10

applying to er, ivies(brown) and amherst, williams, northwestern ish.
i understand 33 is a mediocre if not low score for such schools, but should i actually retake? help help help.

I really don’t think anyone should retake after a 33. Unless your transcript and extra-curriculars are already stellar and you don’t have anything else to do. And if you have $50 to spend on another test.

oh dammit! i got a 33 composite score also! and i got an 8 for essay too! but unlike xxlajxx i got a 33 for english only! dammit! grrr!!

plus im an international student too!

do you guys think i should retake if i’m planning to apply to nyu, brown, chicago, michigan, amherst, swarthmore and middlebury???

pls help! thanks

I took the ACT once and got a 32 composite score (m:35,e:33,r:30,s:29) and a 10 on the essay part. I’m also an international student.

Do you guys think that I should retake it if I wanted to get into Dartmouth?
