I will apply for transfer next year to Georgetown and NYU.

I realize my score is far from good. But is a score of 29 detrimental to my transfer chances? It is below the 25th percentile at Georgetown and the average at NYU.

Math - 24
Science - 23
English - 35
Reading - 32

I say retake. Your language and reading are great, and math is probably the easiest section to improve upon by learning some of the common equations. You could get that math up to a 30 with enough practice.

How do you feel you did overall? I got a 29 my first attempt and decided to retake and am now waiting for the results, but felt I did superbly better the second time around.

Good for you, I hope you performed better your second time. Thanks for your input. After consideration, I think I’ll retake after all. I am now debating whether to take it in June or September. From now to June I’ll be very busy - performances, internship applications, exams, etc. But I really don’t want to be burdened with ACT studying over the summer.

I know June sounds like a rough test date, but it’s generally the most rewarding: you’re in “school mode” while studying, but, unlike during the year, you have virtually complete control over your sleep schedule (which is HUGE) and study schedule. Just make a list of important factors and go from there; you probably can dissect each date and determine factors most important to your testing. Of course, you may also find that relaxation detriments your study and makes you simply not want to study; in that case, you’d probably find a more productive date in September. If you’re a sophomore, you can probably afford to take the test at a future date; if you’re a junior with only one attempt, you may want a fallback plan. I would just dissect each date’s pros and cons and go from there.
