Hi I'm applying to colleges this fall and I will have one more (easy) opportunity to retake the SATs if I chose to do so. I got a 790 on the Chem SAT II(89%) 760 Math level 2(68%). On the SAT I got a 2150 and I know I could probably get at least another 50 points out of writing. I'm not applying to the top level colleges but I just want a second opinion. Would you recommend that I retake the SAT or the SAT IIs?

Percentiles on subject tests are frequently skewed (ex. an 800 on Math II is 83 percentile). Your chem score is solid and unless you’re applying to an Ivy/MIT/Caltech, your math score is probably fine too. I would recommend focusing on retaking the SAT I.

Your SAT subject test scores are pretty good…if you think you can improve on the SAT reasoning test I would retake that, although 2150 is a great score already

Yep^^^ Anything 750+ for a subject test is good. Focus on your SAT reasoning if you feel you need to. 2150 is a great score but if you’re applying to highly selective colleges I would retake just to be safe. What’s the breakdown for each section?

@jsies11 My section scores were 780 math, 640writing, 740 reading.

Honestly, I think your set. You stated " I’m not applying to the top level colleges." Therfore, You are way above the average score for each SAT test, and that makes you highly competitive with those scores. However, If it’s feasible take another stab at the SAT I. Once you break the 750+ barrier on subject tests, It’s a waste to retake them.

Don’t bother retaking your subject tests. I would focus on retaking the SAT I, especially since your lowest score was writing, which is the easiest section to improve (or so I hear).

Since you said you are not aiming for top colleges, you are pretty much set for admission. However, getting a higher SAT1 score may help you to get some merit aid for the range of schools you are looking at.
